The Internet seems overrun with makeup tutorials by individuals seemingly bent on becoming the next Michelle Phan. Some videos are good, some are, um, not so great. But, looking for a great everyday makeup tutorial that's both factually sound and entertaining can be a bit of a chore. Luckily, HuffPost Black Voices spotted a good one, and it's a gift that keeps on giving.
Introducing the hilarious Akilah Hughes, the blogger behind It's Akilah, Obviously, who covers all things lifestyle and was inspired to create a tutorial on trying to look her best every day. From her Forever 21 makeup bag to her candid thoughts (sponges are a waste of money, you haven't accomplished something unless some foundation winds up in your hair), this video will have you laughing while you soak in some solid tips.
A favorite moment is her frankness on primer. "This is a face primer that I was told would do something really cool to my skin. It hasn't so far. I don't think it does anything, but I spent $40 on it, so I use it to validate the purchase." Sadly, we have been there and done that. Show of hands of anyone who hasn't?
Even though we love the fantasy of beauty vloggers turning themselves into celebrities and the fantastic videos that show really sick tips, a dose of refreshing honesty is both necessary and overdue. Can we request MORE tutorials from Hughes? Can she just come to our house and hang out and talk makeup? We don't just love the video — we want her to be our new friend. (The Huffington Post)
