Jason Segel To Play David Foster Wallace In A Supposedly Fun Film

"Interesting." That's probably the best way to describe this news.

Lovable giant Jason Segel, known for his spacey and buffoonish on-screen characters, has reportedly been cast to play the late dread-riddled author David Foster Wallace in a film called The End of the Tour. The movie is based on Rolling Stone writer David Lipsky's book
Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself
, which followed Wallace on the promotional tour for his epic novel Infinite Jest. Jesse Eisenberg has also signed on to play Lipsky, according to The Wrap. Production is scheduled to begin early next year.

While he was surely socially maladjusted and emotionally volatile, Wallace — who committed suicide in 2008 — was anything but spacey or buffoonish. Previous attempts to adapt Wallace's work have fallen somewhat short — even that viral adaptation of his "This Is Water Speech" — so capturing the man himself is quite a tall order. Luckily, Segel is six-foot-four.
Whether he has the acting chops to do DWF justice, of course, we'll have to wait and see. (The Wrap)
