Think Your Prom Photos Are Bad? Check Out These Terrible U.S. Olympian Pics

Athletes, like you've never seen them before: Awkward, blurry, and at times, barely there at all. Getty photographer Joe Klamar's dark, amateur photos of Team USA's Olympic contenders have been under fire since some time now, and were so awful that some thought he might have taken horrific pictures on purpose. BuzzFeed pulled together 36 of the photographer's hilarious shots to see if they're really as god-awful as rumored to be, and let us be the ones to say, 'Oh my gosh. Yes, they are!' Between the torn paper backdrop, wacky side angles, and '80s inspired poses, our country's finest somehow become our not-so-finest — Michael Phelps' odd portrait notwithstanding.

The photographer has commented on the controversial shots, saying he was unaware he'd be able to take more than standard headshots at the U.S. Olympic Committee's Media Summit back in May and came unprepared, but yeesh. Take a look for yourself, and don't pass up the poor badminton player in shot #32. Wearing your love of the sport on your head may work for Anna Dello Russo, but for athletes? Not so much.
