So many factors go into planning the perfect wedding: the dress, the venue, the flower arrangements, the food, the music... You get the idea. The most beautiful nuptials, though? Those go beyond impeccable taste and decor — they reflect the individuals' personalities and the love they share.
This was a great year for weddings that do just that. Ahead, see five undeniably gorgeous "I dos" from 2014 we're still obsessing over. Romance is alive and well — yes, even in New York City.

Cynthia and Eli
The stylish couple met on Governor's Island in the summer of 2010 and decided to tie the knot in the city where they fell in love. In August, Cynthia and Eli said their vows at Brooklyn's 501 Union with a sleek ceremony complete with a flower crown, designer heels, and the cutest ring bearer you've ever seen: their French bulldog, Riley.

Whitney and Hillary
When top New York party producer DJ Whitney Day first met her partner Hillary at the University of Massachusetts, it wasn't exactly love at first sight. In fact, when Whitney auditioned for the a cappella group Hillary belonged to, she was the only member who vetoed the hopeful singer from joining. Little did they know that they would go from being friends to eventual wives to one of the coolest New York power couples. And, their wedding? It was just as cool — and quintessentially New York — as you'd expect.

Brian and David
There’s something to be said for a couple that curates all of the artwork at their wedding. For Brian and David, The Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria was the perfect backdrop to say “I do.” The event was a visual spectacle: The couple sported multicolored suits, the flower arrangements were bold, and the venue’s decor perfectly encompassed the duo’s quirkiness and charm. "Was it a wedding? Was it a Broadway show? Was it an art exhibition?" photographer Kirra Cheers writes of the nuptials. "It was neither, but all of the above at the same time. A celebration of all that is Brian & David."

Karlena and Tom
After the traditional wedding they were planning in Australia got too big, Karlena and Tom decided to call the whole thing off and elope in New York City. They became husband and wife atop the SIXTY SoHo Hotel. Afterward, they wandered around the city to have their picture taken at some of photographer Cassidy Parker Smith's favorite secret spots. It's proof that a wedding doesn't need to be over the top to be magical.

Lulu and Seth
It was Hawaii meets Brooklyn at Lulu and Seth's vintage-inspired wedding at 26 Bridge. The bride and groom kept things casual and in their own style: Lulu sported a custom, bohemian dress, while Seth rocked a deep turquoise suit (which had matching shorts for the reception). Between the creative cocktails and fried chicken, orange color scheme, and tons of greenery, it's as though the couple brought the islands to the big city.
