Refresh Your Skin With One Of These Restorative Facials

While we're big advocates of the products that line our bathroom shelves, sometimes your skin needs the hands of a professional to give it a new lease of life.

Colder weather is known to be the enemy of glowing skin, causing dry patches, chapped lips and dull complexions across the board. Similarly, winter skin often means the heavier base products, which can often cause break outs and clogged pores.

The solution? Rejuvenating massages, luxurious serums, and LED therapy that packs a punch. Whether it's acid peels or moisturising masks, treating yourself to a facial will kickstart your complexion, just in time for the upcoming party season.

A trip to the Bulgari Spa at the Bulgari Hotel in Knightsbridge is pure, unadulterated luxury. Set across two floors - one of the largest in the city - you'll feel immediately blissed out. First up, take some time out in the Relaxation Room, which features curtained-off soft beds sat front of a roaring fire, with ginger tea, fruit, nuts, and flavoured and coconut water to refresh yourself with. Next up, hit the steam room and sauna before dipping a toe in the 25m gold leaf pool - it's so pretty, you'll want to Instagram it.

The treatment menu is as special as its surroundings, with 11 treatment rooms meaning you won't have to wait in line. The Spa/Clinic by 111Skin, founded by Harley Street cosmetic surgeon Dr. Yannis Alexandrides, has a plethora of options, from the achey limbed to the dry skinned, but we recommend The Celestial Black Diamond Facial (also known as the non-surgical face lift). Using rare and expensive diamond powder, the full-intensity facial increases the absorption of active ingredients to help ease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Involving 10 steps, the treatment uses aesthetician-grade exfoliating acid to leave skin feeling firmer, smoother and more contoured.

SKNDOCTOR skincare treatment clinic in Central London was founded by medical and cosmetic doctor, Dr Ewoma Ukeleghe. One of her star facials is the Resurface skin treatment with additional micro-current, a win for those in need of a total skin overhaul. The noninvasive chemical peel enlists a combination of AHAs and BHAs to exfoliate skin more deeply than at-home peels or acids, instantly making skin brighter and more even-toned and textured. Dr Ewoma usually teams the acids with micro-currents, which promotes skin repair and collagen production, leaving skin plump and youthful-looking.

Dermarolling (or microneedling) has been big news in the beauty world for some time for its ability to tackle everything from fine lines to acne scars. Now Skin Design London, the cutting-edge skincare brand known for its innovative ingredients and luxurious products, is in on the act with its Radiance Roller Treatment.

The treatment begins with a vitamin A (retinol) peel, designed to promote collagen production, followed by a go with the dermaroller. Real talk: The needles are tiny – just 0.2mm – but they are needles nevertheless, and you will feel a pricking sensation, particularly across the forehead. Don't worry though, it's far more satisfying than unpleasant, and the rolling opens up channels in your skin to encourage absorption of potent ingredients. Rounding off with an application of Sleeping Beauty, Skin Design's cult collagen crème, skin is left noticeably plumper and positively glowing (the results are even better the next day).

Radiance Roller Treatment, Skin Design London at John Bell & Croyden, £60 for 30 minutes, Mondays only. Email to book
The non-invasive facial workout for which Face Gym is famous has a loyal following, which shouldn't come as a surprise. The brand was founded by Inge Theron, whose philosophy is to treat our face as we do our body with warm-ups, cardio, yoga sessions and bootcamps. Its flagship studio is located on Kings Road (they can also be found on the beauty floor of Selfridges Oxford Street).

The Clean and Lift facial is highly efficacious, clearing and preventing breakouts, whether they're the result of hormones or pollution. Supporting collagen production and skin-plumping, the treatment is the solution for dull and congested complexions and is the perfect after-work pick-me-up.

Industry-adored Hungarian skincare brand Omorovicza began when Stephen de Heinrich de Omorovicza brought his wife to the Rácz spa his family had built in the 1800s. After falling for the mineral-rich water and its effect on their skin, the couple enlisted a Nobel Prize-winning dermatology lab to create a skincare line.

The brand now has a permanent spot in Liberty London's Beauty Rooms, recreated to include the tranquil and therapeutic aspects of the historic spa.

Our pick is the glow-boosting Illuminating Facial. The first step is a gentle peel that's enriched with copper, for an antioxidant collagen-stimulating hit. A traditional Hungarian facial massage then encourages circulation, before an essence rose and peony mask plumps and softens.

He's an advocate of using the most high-tech equipment and tools to deliver customers their best skin, which is one of the reasons his Marylebone salon draws high-profile clients.

Most recently, De Souza launched his Brazilian Zero Facial, "for fantastic results getting the best from the latest technologies and combining it with nature from my home, Brazil." To begin, he uses face mapping systems to clearly outline skin issues, before his super facialist Milena (who previously worked with Dr. Frances Prenna Jones) creates a customised facial using papaya, pineapple and detoxifying Brazil nuts. Next, microdermabrasion, IPL, and LED are used, leaving skin clarified and softer. Your before-and-after photos will prove it.

Elemis offers a range of treatments tackling everything from fine lines and pigmentation to dull, stressed-out skin. While the Dynamic Resurfacing Precision Peel gives skin a kickstart, the Sensitive Skin Booster is perfect for fragile complexions in need of a little TLC.

A vibrational massage is initially used to strengthen and revitalise the skin, before Moroccan rose, chamomile and apricot are used to cleanse and exfoliate. A final hydration hit is given via a nourishing neroli mask.

If you've ever tried Jurlique's products, you'll know the power behind one of its key ingredients: rose. With antioxidant properties, the botanical is packed with soothing and repairing elements.

Great news, then, that the brand offers a 75-minute facial based on this hero component. Firstly you'll be given a 15-minute back massage using warm rose oil before your skin is cleansed and steamed for a squeaky-clean base. Next, a mask is applied to battle clogged pores and dehydration, before a toner-mist is sprayed over the skin to finish.

Ultimate Rose Indulgence Facial, available at Jurlique's Oxford St flagship store and the Four Seasons Hotel on Park Lane, £75 for 75 minutes
A visit to Pfeffer Sal is a truly blissed-out experience. The exposed-brick and candlelit underground spa is located in London's Fitzrovia, and from arrival to departure you're taken care of and made to feel fantastic. This one's for the beauty aficionados who know their retinol from their rosehip oil.

Our hero treatment from the brand is its Ultra Synergy Facial. A word of warning: make sure you don't have to leave the house the next day, as although your skin will be baby-new, it'll also be tomato-red. After a hypnotising massage and fruit enzyme peel, skin is numbed before microneedling, with the microscopic channels in the skin stimulating collagen and better absorbing Pfeffer Sal's patented blend of amino acids and vitamins, PS Beauty Secrets #1.

Next up, one of our all-time favourite products, Vintner's Daughter Active Botanical Serum, is massaged into skin, before powerful LED assists healing. Your skin will feel brand new instantly.

Ultra Synergy Facial, Pfeffer Sal, £260 for 80 minutes
Beauty & Melody's London-wide spas offer several facial treatments, but the most relaxing and rejuvenating has to be the Thalgo 3 Algae Facial. Using products from Thalgo's range – which collates 50 years of skincare expertise – your facialist will consult your skin and choose a line based on specific skin concerns.

Beginning with a massage with rhythms that channel the sea's waves, a dry sheet mask is placed over your skin with a pure natural seaweed mask applied on top. Lastly, a serum and moisturiser suitable for your skin are worked into the face.
