This Is Our Jam: Sleep ∞ Over, “Romantic Streams”

Sleep ∞ Over create music in the same hoary realm that makes bands like Mazzy Star and Grouper so re-listenable. Behind simmering atmospherics, haunting vocals, and reverb-drenched guitar, "Romantic Streams" is (literally) awash with the sound of waves. While the Casiotone synths and nature effects could have lead to silliness or melodrama, Sleep ∞ Oveeffectr show enough restraint that “Romantic Streams” maintains its own sense of earnestness. The overall effect is something like watching Miami Vice reruns wrapped in a velour blanket. The infinity sign in the band’s name may well represent the amount of times you'll want to listen to “Romantic Streams” before drifting off to sleep. (Altered Zones)
