While Lower Dens continue to mixed rock urgency with hazier washes of sound, their new single “Brains” is surely their tightest and most focused effort so far. Jana Hunter takes shoegaze texture and adds a metronomic krautrock rhythm that pushes the track along with hypnotic force. “Brains” has enough energy to get you out the door in the morning, but is still beautifully understated and remarkably deep-sounding.
