Asks The WSJ: "Should Black Women Marry Whites" (WTF???)

In 2011, we wonder why the Wall Street Journal would ask the question (actual wording) "Should Black Women Marry Outside the Race?" What's more, they ask for readers' opinions "via webcam," which, all in all, sounds like a pretty bad idea (and the Journal's commentators agree). We're all for spirited debate, but opening up discussion on a subject that's long been buried is perplexing to say the least. Citing Ralph Richard Bank's WSJ essay, “An Interracial Fix for Black Marriage,” the post ponders whether black women should date outside their ethnic group to improve their marriage and romance prospects, based on Banks' statistics on black men regarding everything from incarceration to education. A typical excerpt: "Black women confront a social scene in which desirable black men are scarce." The cultural study actually makes for an interesting read, but it's an article that can be parsed in many ways besides asking, well, such a black and white question. (WSJ via Gawker)
