Tucked-Away Vintage Store Find: The New World Order

"The idea was to have the location somewhere where it's a little bit off the track, [but] definitely a destination," explains owner Renee Bejil, mastermind behind vintage store The New World Order. Since opening two years ago on Avenue B, the shop has managed to stay off the radar despite garnering a dedicated fashion following. Designers come seeking inspiration, Erin Wasson stops by for fringed leather, and stylists from Patricia Field pick up looks for Ugly Betty. The little treasure trove of a shop stocks pieces like giant gold Chanel necklaces, straight-from-the-runway Dior platforms, dip-dyed mink capes, and quirky leather pieces from outré French designer Claude Montana, all starting around $250. In addition to the well-edited racks ranging from the Victorian era through today, you'll find pieces from Bejil's own label, Raymonda Magdalena, which he's planning to relaunch once the economy picks up. It's like stepping into the super-stylist's closet: "If I were a woman, I'd have to love it in order to buy it. I want to wear it, that's the rule." Welcome to The New World Order.
