Sounds Of The Walls Launch Party
Kudos to Tony Goldman for almost single-handedly turning Miami into the artful mecca it should have always been. He’s just been awarded a lifetime achievement award from the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce and he’s not letting this baby go into his trophy cubby without a shebang. So in celebration, join him on Friday, June 1, for the launch of Sounds of the Walls, where locals will showcase their work. “Oohs” and “Aahs” strongly welcomed.
When: Friday, June 1, 8:00 p.m.
Where: Wynwood Walls, 2550 NW 2nd Avenue
The Beat Who Cheated Death: How Bass Shaped MIA
New Orleans has jazz, Nashville breeds country, and New York lays claim to hip-hop. But when the world called for a genre that could cause serious booty shakin’ action, the 305 had the perfect answer. Enter Miami bass music, a genre so explicit and beat-filled it could make even the most normal Nancy at the party break it down and bust a move. If you have an inkling to learn more about Debbie Deb or DJ Uncle Al (or maybe just vibe to some 2LiveCrew at the after party) join music journalist, historian, and author Dave Tompkins for a discussion at the Miami Art Museum as he talks Miami bass and its matriarch city. Get ready to boot that booty kids, this is one event we’ll give you full permission to scrub the ground.
When: Thursday, May 31, 9:00 p.m.
Where: Miami Art Museum, 101 West Flagler Street; 305-375-3000
Can you believe it’s been almost 20 years since the rein of Alanis, Lisa Frank, and the Clintons? We can’t either. And, to satisfy our craving for the era that gave us grunge and pop boy bands, we’re totally checking into Vagabond this week for ‘90s Homecoming. Spruce up that flannel, dust off the printed leggings, and strap on those Doc Martens, because this is one party you’d be a trippin’ fool to miss.
When: Sunday, May 27, 10:00 p.m.; $10
Where: The Vagabond, 30 NE 14th Street; 305-379-0508
Uncle Luke’s Lingerie Freakfest

While the thought of watching peeps shake
what their mama's gave them may not be appealing to all, we’re pretty sure we’ll catch you mumbling “Get it Girl” at some point in the night.
When: Monday, May 28, 10:00 p.m., $30-$75.
Where: SoBe Live, 1203 Washington Avenue; 305-725-3353.
