Weekend Getaway: Miami’s Soho Beach House

Miami—the city of tight skirts, massive cleavage, and cheestastic clubs—hasn't exactly had a reputation for class. But with Art Basel, concept shops like the Webster, and a number of modern, cutting-edge hotels, Miami's become more Sophisticate, less Snookie. For the discerning traveler, however, there's never really been an intimate, private, and intellectual place for a getaway that's sexy but not too trendy. Enter the venerable Soho House's third North American property, The Soho Beach House, whose arrival on the scene last week is nothing short of a game-changer. Staying at the property is essentially the same as staying at a private club—with just 50 rooms designed by Martin Brudnizki (think free-standing tubs, antique beds, rare books, and mirrored drink trolleys), the House and all its amenties are open only to Soho House members and hotel guests. And man, are the amenities major: A screening room that shows unreleased Hollywood movies, an outpost of white-hot restaurant Cecconis, an 8th story swimming pool, and a beach with full wait service. The best part may perhaps be the Cowshed Spa, where we got the most, uh, sensual massage north of sex, and a facial that rivals Botox for rejuvenation.
