When we featured, Quay Quinn-Settel as a musical muse back in June '11, Slowdance were just getting started. Since then, the Brooklyn indie-pop quintet has released a series of immediately pleasing tunes, the latest of which flips the script on the traditional boy-meets-girl-on-the-dancefloor narrative.
"Boyfriend" (available now on the Boyfriend / Airports 7") is about trying keep things spontaneous in the later years of a relationship. Amidst a background of dreamy synths, Quinn-Settel looks longingly at the past: "Pretend you're not my boyfriend," she sings. With a soundtrack as nostalgic as this one, it just might work.
