Destroyer, Governor’s Ball, And More Can’t-Miss Shows This Week

Destroyer, Sophia Knapp, June 19, (le) Poisson Rouge, $30
The New Pornographer’s Dan Bejar has been making music under his Destroyer moniker since the late ‘90s, but last year’s weirdly smooth, yacht rock-inspired album Kaputt may have been his first true classic. Come for the ‘80s pop hooks, stay for the sax solos.

Tuesday, June 19, 10 pm, (le) Poisson Rouge,158 Bleecker Street (between Thompson and Sullivan streets); 212-353-3474.

The Rapture, Tanlines, Dave P, June 20, House of Vans, FREE with RSVP
For the second year in a row, Vans will return to their Greenpoint warehouse with free shows and skate sessions (preferably not at the same time). This weekend is the kickoff, with New York dance-punks The Rapture and tropical duo Tanlines, whose new album, Mixed Emotions, should already be on everyone’s summer playlists.

Wednesday, June 20, 6 p.m. House of Vans, 25 Franklin Street (at Meserole Street); Brooklyn.

Governor’s Ball, Passion Pit, Duck Sauce, Chromeo, Special Disco Version, Atmosphere, Major Lazer, Santigold, Fiona Apple, Modest Mouse, Beck, Explosions in the Sky, Devendra Banhart, Built To Spill, Cults, June 23 and 24, Randall’s Island, $95 per day
The Governor’s Ball festival returns to New York this weekend for two days of music on Randall’s Island in the East River. Saturday’s show leans toward the dancier side of things, while Sunday indie rock is the name of the game. If you missed Fiona Apple last time she was in town, this is your chance; If you’d rather party with Major Lazer we understand that, too. Really, though, why choose — you can just go to both!

Saturday and Sunday, June 23 and 24, 12 p.m., Randall’s Island.

Up for more? Here are some bonus shows:
