Frank Ocean: July 26, Terminal 5, $30
Earlier this month, Frank Ocean released Channel ORANGE, a subtly gorgeous album of confessional R&B that’s sure to go down as one of the best records of 2012. Thursday’s headlining show at Terminal 5 will put Ocean front and center – giving the Odd Future elder statesman the spotlight he deserves. With Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt in town for their own shows the same night, we think some guest appearances might also be likely.
Thursday, July 26, 7 p.m., Terminal 5, 610 West 56th Street (between 11th and 12th Aves.); 212-582-6600.
Charli XCX, St. Lucia: July 28, Bowery Ballroom, $15
Rising star and Musical Muse Charli XCX will play the Bowery Ballroom this Saturday. If you’re looking for epic choruses and emotional, ‘80s-inspired pop, then this one’s for you. John Lennon glasses optional.
Saturday, July 29, 9 p.m., Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey Street (between Bowery and Chrystie); 212-533-2111.
Catalpa Music Festival: The Black Keys, TV on the Radio, Hercules and Love Affair, Zola Jesus, Snoop Dogg, Girl Talk, Matt & Kim, A$AP Rocky, AraabMUZIK, and more: July 28 and 29, Randall’s Island, $179
The Catalpa Music Festival features two days of music from some of our favorite artists playing Randall's Island in the East River. The first day leans toward rock ‘n roll, while the second features more hip-hop and pop, but both lineups should have something for everyone. You can grab tickets for the individual days at $99 dollars each, but we recommend ponying up the $179 for a two day pass.
