ITAL, The Suicide of Western Culture, Octo Octa, The Knitting Factory Brooklyn, March 21, $10
As unlikely as it sounds, former hardcore punk Daniel Martin-McCormick of ITAL (also Black Eyes and Mi Ami) has been making some of the most exciting dance music we’ve heard recently. Supporting on Wednesday’s bill are the similarly minded (and also excellent) Octo Otca and The Suicide Of Western Culture.
Wednesday, March 21, 7:30 p.m., The Knitting Factory, 361 Metropolitan Avenue (between Havemeyer and Marcy avenues), Brooklyn; 347-529-6696.

Grimes, Born Gold, March 23, Mercury Lounge, $10
Claire Boucher’s (better known as Grimes) return to New York is something of a victory lap after all the attention she’s received surrounding the recent release of her excellent new record, Visions. Grimes plays twice on Friday at Mercury Lounge, and again on Saturday at Glasslands. If you can’t make the shows, there’s always her auction on Saturday night co-presented by yours truly that benefits The Native Women’s Association of Canada. Too much Grimes is never a bad thing.

Friday, March 21, 7:30 p.m. and 10:30, Mercury Lounge, 217 East Houston (between Ludlow and Esssex); 212-260-4700.

Gotye, Kimbra, March 25, Terminal 5, $35
Of the 118,066,396 plays so far on Gotye’s video for “Somebody I Used to Know,” how many were you? This Sunday, you’ll have a chance to get out from behind your computer and watch the silky-voiced, Sting-recalling Australian play that song (and many others) live. As is often the case when international indie sensations play NYC, Sunday’s show is sold out. Fortunately, Stub Hub and Craigslist should have you covered. That, or you can just stay home and watch it again.

Sunday, March 25, 7 p.m., Terminal 5, 610 West 56th Street (between 11th and 12th avenues); 212-582-6600.

Up for more? Here are some bonus shows:
Miike Snow plays the Music Hall of Williamsburg. March 20.
The Wedding Present plays Bell House. March 21.
The Black Keys and The Arctic Monkeys play a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden. March 22.
NGUZUNGUZU play 285 Kent. March 23.
The Mountain Goats play the Merkin Concert Hall. March 24.
