It’s odd to think that after all the of hubbub of the Olympic ceremonies — the re-enacted industrial revolution, the dancing nurses, the Spice Girls — the highlight may have been an interpretive dance number set to a '85 Kate Bush song (it was cut from the American broadcast).
Before the ceremony, there had been rumors that the reclusive singer herself was going to make an appearance, and while that didn’t happen, she did offer a re-recorded, slightly tweaked version of "Running Up That Hill." Though there’s nothing particularly “remixed” about the track, the addition of some extra orchestration to make it better suited for the stadium is welcome, and her voice at 54 years old is as gorgeous as ever. In an Olympics filled with strange, creative choices, and even stranger musical ones, Bush seemed like the right combination of theatrical and tasteful. It's a shame not everyone saw it the first time around, but you can listen to it below or watch the video over at Gawker.
