DIY Superstars: Origami Goes High Fashion

extravagant-diy-magazines-1
Bras from duct tape, cardboard jewelry, dresses from shoelaces...this surely is the year of DIY-fashion, and we really thought we'd seen it all. Even the king of luxury, Karl Lagerfeld, couldn't resist engaging in some elaborate arts-and-crafts play by sending out fantastical paper headpieces made from your standard printer paper on the Chanel couture (couture!) runway. Now artists Fred Butler and Petra Storrs is making our local Staples seem infinitely more appealing with their beautiful and exorbitant creations, made from everyday materials like paper, aluminum, and notecards. These pieces show that the new making-high-fashion-objects-out-of-everyday-materials thing can really be beautiful rather than just comical (really, bubble-wrap dresses, anyone?). Looks like one of Edward Scissorhands' mad creations, don't they? We certainly don't have the crafty digits to make that massive shoulder piece. (StyleBubble, Professionally Trendy).
