Anna Wintour's Former Assistant To Have Her Own Akris Exhibition For FNO

If you've read The Devil Wears Prada, pretend you haven't, at least when it comes to Claiborne Swanson Frank. Anna Wintour's former assistant has nothing but positive words to say about her former boss: "The best thing I ever did was work at Vogue and be under the mentorship of Anna," she tell us. "I found her to be totally brilliant and extremely fair and supportive." With Anna support, Frank finds herself in an enviable position—Swiss fashion house Akris will host a special photography exhibition of her work, "Indigo Lights," featuring 29 (how apropos!) portraits, on Fashion's Night Out. Ivan Shaw, Vogue's Photography Director, helped curate the show, a direct result of her tenure with Anna. And Frank is quick to dispel any reports of having it easy. While she wanted to pursue photography when she was younger, she says, "My real seriousness fell away along with trying to pay the rent." But, having turned 29 on December 29th, she felt "I was at the place in my life where I wanted to do something that I love." And that sentiment will certainly shine through on the 10th, with a series of shots capturing her nearest and dearest—look for designer Whitney Pozgay, Vanessa Carlton, Sasha Lezard, Catrinel Ardeus, Genevieve Bahrenburg, and her sisters Alexis Traina and Veronica Beard, all snapped in the subject's favorite locations to capture "their love of clothes and life." And, an appearance by La Wintour may just be in the cards—"I've seen her a few events and I've said hello."
To see the exhibition in person, and meet Claiborne herself, stop by Akris on FNO.
Friday, September 10, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Akris, 835 Madison Avenue (between East 70th and East 69th streets); 212-717-7472
