How To Wear Spring’s Wildest Prints

With so many springy prints to choose from right now, it can be difficult to settle on just one per outfit. The good news is you don't have to — as long as you know the criteria for mixing and mismatching your polka dots with your stripes with your tropical florals. Since pattern-mixing is a move that can elude even the most fashion-forward dressers, we're sharing five easy styling tips (plus outfits!) for how to pair your patterns like a pro. You'll be amazed at how well your gingham dress complements that kooky, kaleidoscope coat — and how your plaid shirts team with paisley pants. Things are about to get graphic. Make A Bold Statement
In the spirit of "go big or go home," we present Stella Jean's kaleidoscope-printed coat. Its bright yellow and turquoise colors are striking, which is why we paired it with Zara's subtler gingham dress for balance. Because gingham is a classic print (which can almost be treated like a neutral), the finished look won't feel too over-the-top.

Utilize "Neutral Prints"
This idea of "neutral" prints is important when mismatching your clothes; stripes, polka dots, and checks all fit the bill. In this vein, we layered a simple, Breton-stripe top under a bright, floral dress for a playful outfit that's ideal for weekend dates and brunches. It really doesn't get much easier than that, folks.
Size Up Your Patterns
If the pieces you're trying to mix are both large, allover patterns, the resulting look might feel off. And, there's a reason: You're going to want to take the size of your prints into account. If you're wearing a large print on top, make sure your bottom features a smaller one for contrast. Or, vice versa.
The Same, But Different
You can wear two of the same pattern, as long as the combined color palette isn't totally wack. Here, we styled a tropical crop-top with a pink palm-print skirt. Because this Whistles top is essentially monochrome, it integrates nicely with MSGM's more vibrant hues. Black sandals and shades round out the outfit's summery vibes.
Let Accessories In On The Action
Got a bag with loads of personality? While it would be easy to style it with solid-color seperates, we think a printed sweater and black culottes are more fun.
