This Is Our Jam: Apache Beat, “Tracing Sky”

Ilirjana Alushaj is a busy woman. Aside from running her online zine, The Pop Manifesto, she plays as electronic-leaning solo project ille, manages Blood Diamonds, and is one of the many members of Girl Crisis. Of all of her myriad endeavors (and there are probably more we’ve forgotten), she’s probably best known as the front woman of Brooklyn five-piece Apache Beat.
For its latest single, “Tracing Sky,” the group has released a new video that pays homage to Peter Weir’s classic schoolgirls-gone-missing film, Picnic at Hanging Rock. Shot in the style of photographer Neil Krug, the clip blends psychedelic and New Age imagery, taking Apache Beat’s lo-fi pop from upstate New York to meditative astral planes. RIYL: crystals, lomography, mushrooms, entomology, or catchy melodies.
