Ryan Adams Could Get A Grammy For Covering Taylor Swift’s 1989

Taylor Swift might have won the VMAs with "Bad Blood" for Video of the Year, and her Nicki duet stole headlines, but come Grammys, she's going to have a little bit more competition. Mashable reports that Ryan Adams' lovely cover of Taylor Swift's entire 1989 album could be nominated for a Grammy since it's technically an entirely new recording. The Recording Academy confirmed that yes, Adams' cover could be nominated for Album of the Year. Judging from Adams' excellent versions of "Clean" and "Bad Blood," plus the positive critical reception (it was the first Swift album to be reviewed on Pitchfork), we can only hope Adams will get some recognition. Of course, it's not hard to be eligible for nomination. As Mashable points out, Adams only needed to meet the following requirements: Release the album between October 1, 2014 thru September 30, 2015, "general distribution in the United States," and be for sale at anytime throughout the year. Interestingly enough, albums that are released for free to stream are not eligible — including Miley Cyrus' Dead Petz and Chance the Rapper's Surf. But for now, Taylor probably just has to worry about Adams stealing her own 1989 thunder. We are, honestly, quite torn.
