Can I Propose To My Boyfriend?

Photographed by Eva K Salvi.

A few months ago, I received a pretty interesting Ask Lauren
question in my inbox about proposing in a less traditional way. Since May is our Wedding
Bells
month here on LaurenConrad.com, I figured this was the perfect
time to cover this topic. Here’s what one reader asked.

Hey
Lauren! I feel like you would have some good advice for a topic that’s been on
my mind lately. I really want to propose to my boyfriend, but I’m not quite sure
if it’s too un-traditional an approach to take for our engagement. What do
you think? Can I pop the question?

First of all — congrats! It’s so exciting to know you’re
ready to spend the rest of your life with someone. My short answer would be
yes, definitely! As for the way in which you pop the question, it really
depends on the relationship. One of the most important things to remember is
that every couple is different. There are no hard-and-fast rules when it comes
to love. If you’re a stickler for tradition, that’s totally fine, too. But, nowadays,
plenty of people are rewriting the rules and creating new traditions. There is
such a crazy buildup to the proposal, and I kind of like the idea of flipping
the switch instead of just waiting around.

I actually have a girlfriend who was about to propose
to her boyfriend, and she put out some feelers to see how he felt about it. He
ended up telling her it was really important to him that he be the one who proposed. And, after all was said and done, she was glad they had
talked about it. It’s all about what you feel is right for the two of you. If you love each other and know you’re entering
into a lifelong partnership, I think a girl can totally go ahead and propose if
she wants to. Why not? It’s 2015, after all. Hey,
Monica proposed to Chandler — and look how great that turned out!

Do
you have any burning questions you’d like me to answer in my next Ask Lauren post?

Leave your requests in the comments so I can answer
them.

XO Lauren
