4 Gasp-Worthy Getups Inspired By L.A.'s Coolest Art Shows!

In case you haven't noticed, L.A.'s art scene is moving at a meteor-like speed. You could make it a full-time gig just exploring the newest galleries, attending the hottest openings, and hobnobbing with the ingenues around town (don't we wish!). But, since most of us are chained to a workplace without time to uncover it all, R29 has hand-selected our must-hit installations to satiate your...palette. (Sorry, we couldn’t help it!)
We realize this is just scratching the surface, so as an added bonus, we've created four seminal outfits inspired by these artworks. Whether it's a glitzy Testino photograph or a moody Rodarte mural, we promise these matching ensembles are splashed with imagination from head-to-toe.

What: À Chaque Stencil Une Revolution (For Each Stencil A Revolution) by Latifa Echakhch
Wear: Part of the "Ceci n'est pas...Contemporary Art Between France and Los Angeles" series of exhibitions, this ode to Yves Klein blue is comprised of hundreds of carbon-paper sheets treated with solvent that oozes ink down the lobby wall of the Hammer. While its ombré effect is easy on the eyes, the installation also serves as a political statement: The technology used was key in duplicating anti-war pamphlets of the past, and the title is borrowed from a quote by Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. While you're taking in the polarizing beauty and pain of the serious work, stay comfortable in Diesel kicks, and be sure to bring a messenger bag big enough to hold a journal for note taking.
Where: Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Boulevard (at Westwood Boulevard); 310-443-7000.
When: Now through Thursday, July 18; Tuesday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What: Balls by Mario Testino
Wear: Well, there's nothing more glam than a Studio 54-style snap by the high priest of fashion photography is there? This print makes us want to get up and dance! Mix a Malene Birger sequin top with a flirty leopard skirt and some rug-cutting booties, and heads will be spinning just as fast as those disco balls.

What: Kate & Laura by Catherine Opie
Wear: Catherine Opie has captured a quiet, spiritual moment between the Rodarte siblings that any fashion or photography buff would proudly hang on their walls. The somber photo where the subjects blend seamlessly into the backdrop echoes the designers' own poetic work and even somehow the mystery behind their secret sauce. Take a cue from the vision by accenting an ethereal maxi with some goth-like accessories, Rodarte scarf included. P.S.: What do you think Laura's whispering to Kate?
Where: Regen Projects, 6750 Santa Monica Boulevard (near North McCadden Place); 310-276-5424.
When: Now through Friday, March 29; Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

From Left, Clockwise: Dorothy Perkins Silver Look Cross Ring, $8, available at Dorothy Perkins; Aurelie Demel Maxi Dress, $410.21, available at FarFetch; Tarte EmphasEYES Waterproof Clay Shadow and Liner, $24, available at Sephora; Rodarte Exclusive Print Scarf, $425, available at Opening Ceremony; American Apparel Leather Ballet Flats, $80, available at American Apparel; Jesselli Couture Embroidered Patent Clutch, $100, available at eBags.

What: Shit Age by Jason Yates
Wear: Naturally, Clover Canyon's the most when it comes to canvas-worthy, kaleidoscopic frocks — and aren't the colors here eerily spot-on? Michigan-bred Yates used a gang of materials for his piece (ink, paint, colored pencil, colored marker, feathers, cotton balls, stickers, foil, and plastic lettering), so we thought it was fitting to throw in a ton of textures to properly mirror the work. It might be a lot to pull off, but sometimes you've got to rummage up all the moxie you have to make a statement, right? Regardless, we're sure you'll agree, there's nothing sh*tty about this entire situation (pardon our français).
Where: MJ Briggs, 313 North Fairfax Avenue (at Beverly Boulevard); no phone.
When: Now through late spring; Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

From Left, Clockwise: Georgie Perforated Faux Leather Jacket, $318, available at Intermix; Clover Canyon Turquoise Valley Printed Stretch Neoprene Dress, $246, available at Net-A-Porter; Vince Camuto Judy Cross Body Bag, $198, available at Zappos; BaubleBar Yellow Mod Bib Necklace, $34, available at BaubleBar; Zara Court Shoe with Studded Cap Toe, $99.90, available at Zara.
