With a name that sounds more like a German Formula One team than electro band, it may surprise you to learn that Jensen Sportag are actually purveyors of blissfully effervescent synth-pop. “Gentle Man” sees the duo settled expertly in their groove, with a breathy R&B-inflected hook backed by Roland TR-909-sounding blips and whorls. Like Cascine labelmate Chad Valley, the duo keep things light, with an earnest romanticism that feels genuinely emotional. There’s a reason why the song title is “Gentle Man”—two words; these guys aren’t necessarily the classiest, but they are 100% sincere. If they ask to buy you a drink, you should let them.
