This Is Our Jam: Frankie Rose, “Know Me”

frankie-rose
Frankie Rose’s first single from her new album Interstellar has the perfect title. With former backing band The Outs, and as a member of garage-pop outfits Dum Dum Girls, Crystal Stilts, and Vivian Girls, Rose seemed to be on a continual search for her own sound. Drawing from the storied history of her label Slumberland (known for acts ranging from Black Tambourine to The Pains of Being Pure at Heart) as well as ‘80s indie-pop like The Smiths and Talk Talk, “Know Me” sees Frankie Rose assuming her place in a long tradition of dark yet catchy pop. While Ms. Rose may wear her influences on her sleeve, paradoxically, “Know Me” is the song where we get the best sense of Frankie Rose as a singular artist. This time, when Rose sings “know me,” we begin to feel like we really do.
