Get Lost At Todd Hido's Stunning New Show

Todd Hido
It’s only natural to lose sight of your rural upbringing once totally enraptured by this MUNI-bound city life, but local photographer Todd Hido is giving all of us imports a stunning reminder in his latest exhibit, Silver Meadows.
In a collection of gorgeous photographs of his hometown of Kent, Ohio (among other isolated U.S. suburbs), Hido has captured a fascinating sliver of small-town life. Our favorites are the stunning shots of local girls, playing main characters in a cinematic art show, against backdrops of snow-filled desolation. Named after an actual town in the Midwest, Silver Meadows depicts the rural inhabitants' eventual escape to a sex-, drugs-, and rock-'n’-roll-fueled life.
Intrigued? Be sure to see the striking photographs in person (and meet their maker at the opening tomorrow tonight) before a tome hits bookshelves later this year.
When: Now through Saturday, February 25; Opening reception Saturday, January 7, 4–6 p.m.
Where: Stephen Wirtz Gallery, 49 Geary Street, 3rd Floor, (at Grant Avenue); 415-433-6879.
