This Is Our Jam: T.I., “Sorry (Featuring André 3000)”

This track may be a week old now, but in our listen-then-forget-it music cycle, sometimes it's worth sitting back and letting something great actually sink in. Quite simply, "Sorry" is one of the finest rap songs of the year, with elegiac verses from two heavy weights who have been in the game for a long, long time. Hearing T.I. wrestling with his demons would be striking enough ("It's nothing, you numb to it, and your heart grow colder / Pacify your pain with a chain and a Rover"), but Andre 3000's virtuosic verse at the track's end is in a different league altogether.

"This the type of shit that make you call your rap partner and say 'Sorry I'm awkward. My fault for fuckin' up the tours / I hated all the attention so I ran from it,'" Three Stacks raps in an apology to Big Boi. He continues, "Fuck it if we did, but I hope we ain't lose no fans from it." As the meandering verse ends, he delves into past relationships and his own psyche looking for solace, but finds no answers. "What should I be sorry for? Who should I be sorry to?" André asks. Silence.
