This Is Our Jam: Memoryhouse, “The Kids Were Wrong”

memoryhouse
If you’re already familiar with Memoryhouse, the first thing you’ll notice about “The Kids Were Wrong” is that it (comparatively) rocks. Memoryhouse is known for their somnolent dream-pop, a genre not usually recognized for its ability to get your blood pumping. Yet, as soon as the kickdrum hits, “The Kids Were Wrong” sets itself apart from their recently reworked The Years EP with new levels of verve. Still, fans of Denise Nouvion’s breathy voice won’t be disappointed, and the gossamer atmosphere of their past songs remains, but they’ve taken their sound to a willfully more upbeat and catchy place. It’s as if Memoryhouse have lowered the leg-rest on their La-Z-Boy and are considering a trip to the kitchen for some iced tea. Refreshing.
