Crystal Castles and HEALTH are two peas in a pod. Both make abrasive music rooted in noise and industrial, and both have an equal love of house, trance, and the dance floor. For whatever reason, Crystal Castles has decided to revisit their track “Suffocation” two years after its release (also making a high fashion inspired video with VS), and HEALTH have been called in for remix duties.
HEALTH’s version of the track dials back the trance-maximalism of the original and reaches for something more quietly unnerving. The buzzsaw whir found on HEALTH tracks like “We Are Water” is present here, and the vocals are given a sinister, Italo-horror lean. It’s a noteworthy take on an already great track, and reason to look forward to the next proper releases from both bands.
