This Is Our Jam: Liars, “No. 1 Against The Rush”

liars
Art-rock mainstays Liars have never rested on their laurels, and new single “No. 1 Against the Rush” is further evidence that even after six albums, the band refuses to stick with one particular sound. Their new LP WIXIW (pronounced “wish you,” if you can believe it), is described by the band as a their most electronic-leaning record, and “No. 1 Against the Rush” may be their poppiest song to date. The track draws from the darker new wave sounds of the early ‘80s, with Angus Andrew brooding over spare synth arpeggios and understated electronic drums. The outro, a mix of hollow percussion and twitchy electronics throws us another curveball — more proof that Liars refuse to settle down. What a sad day it would be if they ever do.
