Object Lesson: High Standards

Obedient Sons crosses over the casual barrier. By Loryn Hatch

An unexpected anachronism who defies the current notions of formal and casual, today's sharp dressed guy adds verve to an everyday landscape where slacks and button-downs only make it out for special occasions. With a spring collection that's hitting stores early next week, Obedient Sons fuses the sophisticated style and function of old with modern classics that will inspire the most casual contender to up the ante. The perfect transition? The Gainsbourg Evening Pant—a well-tailored staple that takes a minimalist approach to looking dapper.
The fit is slim and straight. The waist rises higher than the average pair of jeans yet succeeds at being just as comfortable. Available in pale gray, navy, white, seersucker blue/white, and black, these cotton trousers (with a spot of Lycra) fit the philosophy of Obedient Sons designer Swaim Hutson, who attests, "if there's a flash or pop in the wardrobe, it should happen below the ankle or on the wrist." But, paired with suspenders, a snug wool vest, or a favorite well-worn oxford, the Gainsbourg needs little else to feel complete.
The Gainsbourg pant ($295) will be available early next week at Bblessing, 181 Orchard Street, 212-378-8005. For more information, go to www.obedientsons.com
