5 Can’t-Miss Rock Shows This Week

Tame Impala at Lincoln Hall, May 3, $14. We suggest you grab a ticket to this show right now, because Tame Impala brings a major sellout alert with them every time they visit the Windy City. Their approachable, enjoyable garage rock is less...how you say...harsh than some of their rock brethren.
Lincoln Hall, 2424 North Lincoln Avenue (at Fullerton Avenue and Halsted Street); 773-525-2501.

The Kills at The Vic, May 4, $21. It's never clear if we're watching The Kills' show because we love the moody, beat-driven rock generated by the alter-egos of two musical giants, or if we're just there because we know for sure that they're cooler than us. Regardless, we hope they'd take either motivation as a compliment.
The Vic Theater, 3145 North Sheffield Avenue (at Belmont Avenue); 773-472-0366.

Yacht at The Metro, May 5, $16
. Again, we're not sure if even The Metro can house all the buzz flying about the head of Jona Bechtolt, a.k.a. Yacht, so snag a ticket now. What is it about electro-pop that transcends age groups and brings suits and miniskirts alike out of the woodwork? Plus, Portland is like, so in right now.
The Metro, 3730 North Clark Street (at Waveland Avenue); 773-549-4140.

Yelle at Bottom Lounge, May 6, $20
. Yelle makes the kind of French dancy-pop that we imagine would be playing at Stewie's sexy parties. It's sure as hell playing at ours. Grab a ladyfriend or 12 and enjoy a night fueled by fun and music, rather than inhibition-crushing booze.
Bottom Lounge, 1375 West Lake Street (at North Ogden Ave); 312-666-6775.

Surfer Blood at Bottom Lounge, May 7, $20. Do not balk at the price tag. Yes, we realize you probably snuck into Pitchfork and watched them for free last summer, but pay up kids, this is worth it. How the hell a band has generated a sound that combines both '90s indie and a sensation that we're listening to Buddy Holly progeny, we'll never know. But we're into it.
Bottom Lounge, 1375 West Lake Street (at North Ogden Ave); 312-666-6775.
