Katy Perry Is A Trap Star With New “Dark Horse” Song

It's no secret that Katy Perry's been looking to switch up her sound with her upcoming LP, Prism. She's teased the end of the candy-colored, fantasy world of Teenage Dream by ceremonially burning her blue wig and holding a funeral for her super-saturated persona. Prism's first single, albeit fun and catchy (and rife with Internet controversy), wasn't anything new, though; if Perry wanted to revamp, she was going to have to do more than just, well, roar.
Her new song, "Dark Horse," is doing just that. Perry's gone full hip-pop with the new track, infusing more urban-leaning trap production with a pop chorus. It might not be the deepest or hardest of cuts for those who are familiar for the genre she's cribbing, but it's enough to suggest that the performer's not messing around — and that pop music referencing of underground rap has become a true trend. This is confirmed with riffs by none other than Juicy J, signally that Perry has, for the first time, made a track that you'll be hearing in the middle of your night out, instead of just at the pre-game.
