8 Of Osheaga Music Festival’s Must-See Acts!

So far this festival season, we've crisscrossed the United States, hopped the pond, and partied in Ibiza, but what about our neighbors to the north? That's where The Osheaga Festival of the Arts (or as the Quebecois say, musique et arts Osheaga) comes in. Held annually in Parc Jean-Drapeau, a park situated on beautiful Ile Ste-Hélène across from Montreal, the festival presents an annual extravaganza-filled five stages of the world's best musical acts. If that sounds like something you may be into (and hey, why wouldn't you be?), it may be worth planning a last-minute jaunt up to Canada from August 2 through 4. Below we have a complete list of the bands performing, along with eight can't-miss recommendations. Bon voyage!

Lou Doillon
French songstress Lou Doillon is favorite here at Refinery29 (see our profile of her for more). Her live performances offer a wistful take on folk and Americana.

Frank Ocean
While Frank Ocean may be taking things easy compared to last year's epic ride, his album remains on heavy rotation. Osheaga will mark nice opportunity to see him do his thing for the festival crowd.

Majical Cloudz
Together, Devon Welsh and Matthew Otto are Majical Cloudz — a synth-pop outfit that specializes in starkly emotional pop. Seeing the Montreal duo in its home environment should be especially great.

Diamond Rings

John O'Regan's synth project mixes '70s glam with 21st century pop. His live show is a can't-miss whirlwind of big hooks and dazzling theatricality.

The Breeders

Kim Deal may have dropped out of Pixies just as the band was releasing its first new material in years, but that hasn't stopped her from soldiering on with her other '90s indie group, The Breeders. And hey, who needs the Pixies when you have songs like "Cannonball" under your belt?

Phoenix

Pheonix has been on the festival circuit all summer, so chances are high that you've already caught it. If you haven't, though, Osheaga is another chance to see one of the best bands in the world do what it does best.

Tegan & Sara

The Quin twins just released their first new album in four years, and it's a winner. The duo's live show is also the best it's ever been with songs that draw from the band's long history of emotive synth-pop.

The Cure

The Cure is a workhorse. It's been touring continuously for more than 30 years with only a few lulls in activity. For any band, that is a grand achievement, but Robert Smith and company seem happy — or, more accurately, perfectly bummed out— to keep on showing us how they do their thing.
