Our patience is running thin waiting to hear Gaga's new album, but in the meantime, she's given us a tiny treat to hold us over — and it is good. The singer released the cover art for ARTPOP's first single, "Applause," a colorful image shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, who also worked on the single's music video. While the image invokes a bit of colorful sadness, the singer has assured us that the forthcoming album will be all about fun.
"It’s full of happiness, because what I’m saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause," she told WWD. "I live for the way you cheer and scream for me. Give me that thing that I love. Put your hands up, make them touch." Gaga is staying mum on the rest of the album's details — barring a leak, we Monsters won't know any more about the song until "Applause" is released on August 19.
She'll also be headlining next month's VMAs at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which will include an artistic collaboration with Robert Wilson. Naturally, Gaga's not dishing on that, either, but we imagine she's got some tricks up her sleeve, and they may even rival her infamous 2011 arrival in a custom-made egg.
