So Great: Go Back To The ’20s With The Plaza’s Great Gatsby Holiday Tree

1

To say we have Gatsby fever would be a total understatement. Between the cast (Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire!), the clothes, and the legendary F. Scott Fitzgerald tale behind it,
Baz Luhrmann's flick is already promising to be our favorite of 2013. That's why we'll be stalking hanging around The Plaza more than usual this holiday season — all thanks to the hotel's Great Gatsby Holiday Tree.

The 18-foot mega-tree, the brainchild of Gatsby production designer Catherine Martin, was assembled with 100 pounds of glass, sparkling snow flakes, and gold and silver ornaments, to evoke a 1920s sense of glamour. On November 26 at 5:00 p.m. (let's see, that's just 11 days away!), the former Fitzgerald and Martin will host a tree-lighting "Fitzgerald Tea for the Ages" and kick off the haute hostelry's holiday season.

Reservations begin at $79 for adults and $45 for children — a low price to pay considering a champagne/mocktail toast and front-row seats to an Acadamy Award-winning designer the tree lighting are included in your fee.
As if this wasn't enough to have us nearly fainting, the Palm Court's chef, Willis Loughhead, has prepared a '20s-inspired menu featuring Curried Lobster Salad with Local Apple, Banana Financier, and Jazz Age Chocolate Bon Bons. Um, anyone out there have a time machine we could borrow?
Reservations for the "Fitzgerald Tea for the Ages" can be made by calling 212-546-5300 or emailing palmcourt@fairmont.com.
