This Haunting App Remembers The Pre-911 New York Skyline

It's unbelievable that 10 years have passed since the New York skyline changed forever, and even more unsettling that so many people under a certain age will never know what they're missing–until now. Fucked in Park Slope reports that native son Brian August is working on a new iPhone app that will virtually pencil in the silhouette of the Twin Towers in the appropriate spot on any view of Manhattan (see video below). And for those of us without the luxury of a smartphone, there's also an art project in the works to construct 110 installations in a 50-mile range around the city to create structures that, when viewed from a properly placed bench, will recreate the appearance of The World Trade Center where it once stood. But the whole project, app and art, can't happen without your help—Brian August needs donations to complete the free app by September! You can help make it possible here–all proceeds will go to this much-needed remembrance of the iconic views of the past.
