MAC’s Latest Collab Is All About The Packaging

One of the reasons (which are far too many to count) we love a MAC collaboration is that the brand always kills it with the packaging. But, its latest endeavor with Chinese couturier Guo Pei, launching in October, has set a new standard. Every gorgeous product — from the lipsticks to the blushes to the eyeshadow palettes — is housed in a gilded compact and embossed with a delicate flower pattern (a.k.a. some serious Like-gaining material for your Instagram #shelfies). The timing is also something to give MAC snaps about. The announcement of the partnership comes mere days ahead of Monday's 2015 Met Gala, which will celebrate the opening of the "China: Through the Looking Glass" exhibition. So, an ode to one of the country's couture greats is not only fitting, but downright brilliant.  For those of you unfamiliar with Pei, she's one of China's most noted fashion designers. Her couture creations have won her a bevy of accolades and awards. For the MAC collection, Pei told The Cut that the shade choices gave her a sense of power; the blue is the color of the soul, while pink and coral represent happiness. "I want to affect the people around me with happiness," she said. A lipstick that can instantly brighten our mood? We're sold.
