1. Jesse Reding Fleming:
This former Doug Aiken and Matthew Barney assistant has directed videos for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, MoMA, and Sigur Ros. His films and stills explore the desert and isolation, and the resulting pieces are as painfully beautiful as they are austere.
2. Davida Nemeroff:
This Canada-born conceptual photographer is not only responsible for some of the most visually arresting photographs, but is also an owner of Night Gallery. Her lush photographs of otherworldly landscapes and intimate portraits of friends have been generating some serious "The Next Ryan McGinley" buzz all over town.
3. Alexa Gerrity:
This New York transplant received the prestigious "Best In Class" distinction from Cal Arts and is about to have her first solo show in October at The Company. Her vivid paintings explore the "alienating quality of the suburban landscape" in Los Angeles, and have a childlike whimsy reminiscent of Elizabeth Peyton's watercolors.
