First Look: Unionmade's New Women's Shop, Mill Mercantile

Drumroll, kids ... Unionmade's long-awaited womenswear shop, Mill Mercantile, has finally opened its doors. Featuring a slew of tomboy-friendly merch, the sprawling shop on the corner of 24th and Chattanooga in Noe Valley is filled to the brim with the same aesthetic found in Unionmade's storied menswear emporium in the Castro. Of course, that's on purpose.
“Women have always shopped Unionmade for themselves or their boyfriends [and] husbands," explains Mill's co-founder Todd Barkett. "So, we knew there was an interest there, but we didn’t want to water down the Unionmade concept with a whole new women’s line, so it felt better to just go after a totally new project that’s purely dedicated to really beautiful women’s goods.” Some of those beauts include button-downs from Gitman Bros. and Levi's Made & Crafted line, striped tops by St. James and Chance, Raleigh denim, Moscot sunnies, Dieppa Restrepo shoes, jewelry, Aesop apothecary items, and a pile of covetable magazines (Elle Decor UK, Anthology, Kinfolk) and books.
Of course, the opening of the stylish store on the not-exactly-fashionable 24th Street strip is sure to open up the stroller-centric 'hood to a new clientele. And that's also something Barkett and team (including shop manager/designer Michele Janezic) are hyped about. “We’re really excited to open Mill in Noe Valley," he says. "It’s such an amazing neighborhood that really embraces and supports its local merchants. Plus, it’s closer to home. We can’t wait to meet all our new neighbors.”
