How To Be Lady Gaga In All Of Her Eras For Halloween

Lady Gaga is a singular presence in the pop culture sphere. She's the master of kaleidoscopic reinvention. By now, her outfits, costumes, and alter egos are as famous as the songs we can't get out of our heads.

In the Netflix documentary Five Foot Two, Gaga takes off the avant-garde outfits, and wipes the glitter from her face. For perhaps the first time, we get a glimpse of Stefani Germanotta herself, the woman behind the pop star. The film tracks the making of Joanne, her sixth album, a time that Gaga experienced the "lowest lows."

As a result of Five Foot Two, we know Gaga better than we ever did before. Can we be her for Halloween? Well, most of us don't have access to her costume designers, let alone her over-the-top imagination. Still, all you need is some DIY creativity to emulate this brave, vulnerable, endlessly surprising singer for Halloween.

The Meat Dress (of course)

Gaga's had some extreme get-ups, but none quite as memorable as the meat dress, which she wore to the 2010 MTV VMAs. We don't recommend wearing raw meat outside. But you can make one yourself, as this handy Guardian guide shows. All you need is some fabric, acrylic paint, paintbrushes, and a dress you're fully prepared to ruin for the sake of a Halloween costume.

The Red Lace Dress

Lady Gaga stormed the 2009 VMAs stage with her face completely obscured by a red dress. Grab a red lace dress from just about anywhere. Then, attach red lace fabric to a plastic crown, and let the extra fabric drape down over your face.
The Joanne Era

Get ready to invest in the article of clothing you've always desperately wanted: A pink cowgirl hat. To make the look more authentic, wrap a silver ribbon around the hat. You can buy a hat directly off Gaga's website, or a lookalike from Amazon. Wear gold hoop earrings, and a long blonde wig. Finally, wear a leather jacket with some sort of embellishment, or this satin pink jacket right off Gaga's merch site.
