Where You Should Travel in 2018 — Based On Your Horoscope

Our reading material in the month of December consists of two things and two things only: Horoscope forecasts for the coming year, and "places to visit in 2018" listicles. To us, the perfect end-of-year prep means reading all about our zodiac sign and updating our travel bucket list.
And so, it occurred to us: Why don't we kill two birds with one stone, and let our celestial fortunes inspire where our next big trip should be? We've enlisted Janelle Belgrave, one of our favorite astrologers, to share her travel tips for each sign, plus the getaway spots that best fit their proclivities. And, because we're always looking out for travelers on different budgets, we've included destination suggestions for both luxury and low-cost vacations. Aries
March 21 to April 19

"With Uranus finally leaving the Aries sign after a tumultuous seven-year stay, this upcoming year is the perfect opportunity for Rams to reclaim their time and start enjoying themselves again," says Belgrave. You’ll feel like a brand new person in 2018, so what better way to celebrate this sense of rebirth than a solo journey?

Splurge: Phu Quoc, Vietnam

A solo journey to somewhere tropical is the the cards. Belgrave suggests traveling during off-season — especially between October and December, when Jupiter goes into in Sagittarius — so that you can fully be present with yourself. Phu Quoc has tons to offer in that regard: The Vietnamese fishing island is an up-and-coming destination, with luxury developments slowly trickling in. The white sand beaches, fresh seafood, and lush rainforest pretty much guarantees the best vacation ever.

Save: Boulder, CO

According to Belgrave, sporty activities will do Aries a lot of good in the coming year. So, may we suggest a rock climbing excursion in the Colorado Rockies? When you're done with your trek, reward yourself by hitting up the area's underappreciated beer trail on the Colorado Brewery Bus.

Taurus
April 20 to May 20

Though you're normally a creature of habit, dear Taurus, 2018 is the year to get out of your comfort zone. "Uranus, the planet of sudden change, is coming to Taurus this spring," says Belgrave. "If there was ever a time to try something completely foreign to you, this would be the year to start." Delicious food, excellent wine, and breathtaking views is your idea of a good time.

Splurge: Páros, Greece

This remote Greek island is the ideal getaway to shake things up: There's a lot to explore on the picturesque destination, from the white Cycladic architecture along the Port of Naoussa to the indie boutiques and Byzantine churches in the old town of Parikia. There's no better place to unwind and enjoy a slower pace of living.

Save: Paso Robles, CA

A vacation replete with wine tasting opportunities can be a lot more affordable than you think. Paso Robles is a hugely underrated wine country in Northern California with over 200 wineries, many of which offer free tastings. Make sure to stop by Tobin James Wine Cellars and Eberle Winery, two of the region's most celebrated establishments with a variety of freebie tasting sessions.

Gemini
May 21 to June 20

"Now that the Saturn in Sagittarius has finished opposing your sign, Geminis should be able to breathe a little easier next year," says Belgrave. "It's prime time to get moving and consider taking a trip that allows you to interact and mingle with locals." Grab a dual language dictionary and book your hostel: The best adventure for you is a far-flung destination where you don't even speak the language.

Splurge: Marrakech, Morocco

There's no better way to learn about a new culture than by walking around and getting to its people and local customs. Wandering through the labyrinthine of Old Medina in Marrakech is a sensory overload in the best way possible, from smelling spices at the souks to touring the ornate palaces. Book a tour with locals to allow yourself an even deeper understand of the history and culture — with minimal hassle.

Save: San Francisco, CA

If you're looking to travel within the country, consider the highly walkable San Francisco. The Bay Area is home to a diverse immigrant population, resulting in a world-renowned culinary scene. You really can't go wrong with a bowl of Pho in the Tenderloin or a carnitas burrito in the Mission District.

Cancer
June 21 to July 22

"A series of eclipses will have a big influence on the Cancer's outlook in 2018, prompting you to rethink the definition of home," says Belgrave. "The Crab tends to enjoy places that feel familiar and homey, even when on the road." Wherever you go, make sure there will be plenty of emotional and physical sustenance — such as delectable local food near large bodies of water — to feel that TLC.

Splurge: Bodrum, Turkey

Bodrum is a travel hotspot for both Hollywood royalty and actual royalty alike. The idyllic West Coast of Turkey, also known as the Turkish Riviera or Turquoise Coast, has seen a string of five-star resort openings in the past few years. The secluded beaches are ideal for getting some R&R in peace, and when you're done recharging, there are plenty of local handicraft stalls to peruse at the Bodrum Bazaar.

Save: Boca Chica, Dominican Republic

Being able to mingle with a friendly local community is important to the Cancer sign, and there's hardly a better place to do that than Boca Chica. The beach town is frequently by Dominicans residing in the nearby capital, Santo Domingo, where they might challenge you to an impromptu game of beach volleyball. The shallow and pristine waters also makes it an ideal destination for snorkeling.

Leo
July 23 to August 22

Leos are very into self-expression to begin with, but with multiple eclipses is going off in this sign next year, that attribute is about to be dialed to the maximum. "When choosing a vacation spot next year, pick somewhere that shows off your your originality, playfulness, and generosity," says Belgrave. Catching big vents like festivals, concerts, or galas will satisfy your love of showmanship.

Splurge: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro is, hands down, the biggest party in the world. The five-day blowout involves dancing on the streets, loud music, and elaborate costumes. In other words, this celebration fits the Leo down to a T. The February festivities aside, the glam capital is also a great place to ring in the New Year, where Cariocas (local Brazilians) go all-out with firework parties on Copacabana Beach.

Save: Miami, FL

Leos love having a good time, and Miami is the ideal place to be: With its colorful Art Deco-style buildings, a busy club scene, and beautifully-tanned people, what's not to love? The best thing about staying in Miami? The affordable dining and entertainment. Restaurants are big on two-for-one promotions and dining specials, and taking a leisurely walk down the mile-long boardwalk will cost you absolutely nothing.

Virgo
August 23 to September 22

Virgo loves putting together a to-do list that's well-thought-out, so destinations that can offer an engaging itinerary are ideal. "Virgos loves details, so any place that offers craftsmanship, art, and museums are right up their alley," says Belgrave. "The best way to approach a trip for you would be creating an organized list of places to see — and sticking to it."

Splurge: Jaipur, India

Jaipur is an enchanting place: With a spectrum of highly saturated colors on every street corner, you can't find a more Instagram-ready place than the "Pink City." Give yourself plenty of time to browse Johari Bazaar and Kishanpol Bazaar, where you'll encounter beautiful fabrics, jewelry, and hand-crafted goods. Prepare to have your mind blown at sublime sights like Amber Fort, Palace Of The Winds, and City Palace.

Save: Manchester, U.K.

Manchester is a thriving city that deserves a closer look. The arts and culture scene here will keep you itinerary pretty full, from browsing works of Warhol at the glass-roofed Whitworth Gallery to rocking out to live music at the 114-year-old Salford Lad's Club. Hang around the Northern Quarter or Ancoats to befriend hip and friendly Mancunians.

Libra
September 23 to October 22

"Saturn, the planet of limitations and responsibility, will be at full-swing for Libra in 2018," says Belgrave. "This means having to learn how to balance your own needs with those of others when you are traveling." Try to form a clear idea of where you'd like to go and what you want to experience, and balance that with the expectations of your group, so that everyone will enjoy the trip. Remember: Sometimes a compromise can turn into a win-win situation.

Splurge: Hokkaido, Japan

Libras are all about being surrounded by beauty, and nowhere checks that off more adequately than Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island. The destination promises jaw-dropping landscapes all year round, from Furano's vibrant lavender fields in the summer to the snow-capped mountains of Niseko in the winter.

Save: Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is the dream getaway for anyone who has an eye for the finer things in life. The European capital is boasts a majestic collection of castle complexes and Gothic churches, as it was mostly spared from destruction during WWII. Get your culture fix with a classical concert at the Rudolfinum Concert Hall or people-watching at the elegant, Cubist-style Grand Café Orient.

Scorpio
October 23 to November 21

With Jupiter in your sign this year, you'll be desperately seeking ways to expand your horizons in a deep and transformative way. Consider planning a trip that promotes healing in some shape or form. A trip that inspires you to reassess your life will leave you ready to face 2018 refreshed and renewed.

Splurge: Fluðir, Iceland

Forget about the touristy Blue Lagoon, and head South for the natural hot springs at Fluðir instead. This little-known village is known as "The Secret Lagoon", and locals have been coming here since the late-19th century. In the winter, you'd be able to take in the Northern Lights while soaking in the thermal pools. We can hardly think of a more reinvigorating experience.

The Red Rock Country is where you should head for a restorative journey and commune with nature. The red rock landscape is not only stunning to look at, it also provides an amazing backdrop for a picnic. Take a detour to the Hopi Reservation and the Montezuma Well to enrich your knowledge on Native American cultures.

Sagittarius
November 22 to December 21

"After two long years, Saturn — a planet that signifies limitations and challenges — has finally left your sign," says Belgrave. "This translates into a celebratory mood and the need for a fun trip to celebrate your newfound maturity." The Archers are not on the lookout for superficial travel experiences, but rather, opportunities that ignite your curiosity by widening your cultural horizons.

Splurge: Zagreb, Croatia

According to Belgrave, Jupiter will be entering your sign in November, so a wild Thanksgiving or Christmas celebration will be just the ticket to lift you away from the mundane. So why not ring in the season with a trip to Zagreb, where its Christmas markets are voted the best in the world? From the Museum of Broken Relationships to the panoply of outdoor farmer's markets, the city makes for an interesting visit outside of Christmas.

Widen your scope of adventure by booking a trip to New Orleans, one of the most culturally vibrant cities in America. Mardi Gras is something every traveler should experience when given the chance, but it's pretty a must-see destination year-round: How can you beat spontaneous jazz music played on the streets, being able to drink outside, and fresh beignets from Café du Monde?

Capricorn
December 22 to January 19

"Responsibility" and "authority" are the keywords for Capricorns this year. You might be feeling more serious than usual, so make sure to lessen the load and main your work-life balance with a vacation every now and then. "Part of your lesson is learning how to loosen up, so it’s even okay to let someone else organize your itinerary to take the burden away from you," says Belgrave.

A city like Berlin appeals to the Capricornian sensibility, scoring high on the food, entertainment, sightseeing, and shopping fronts. If you're feeling lucky, add Berghain — the hardest nightclub to get into in the world — to your bucket list. Recover from your all-nighter with a trip to Liquidrom, a public bath beloved by locals.

Save: New York, NY

You'll never be bored in a city like New York: The myriad of theaters, flea markets, walking tours, and interesting neighborhoods will keep you preoccupied. Want some additional entertainment? Time your visit in late January to catch the 2018 Grammys at Madison Square Garden: The awards show will be held in the city to coincide with its 60th anniversary.

Aquarius
January 20 to February 18

Aquarius, like your opposite sign Leo, will also be under the beams of the eclipse next year. Belgrave suggests letting go of thoughts and habits that keep you from enjoying yourself, especially with people who hold different views from your own. Try going on a group trip with a tour operator or plan something that allows you to spend time with peers.

Splurge: Pyeongchang, South Korea

South Korea will be hosting to The 2018 Winter Olympics, and the sporting event could just be the type of excitement — and socializing opportunity — your life is missing. "Anything that allows for immersion in a social vision or local community will keep Aquarious happy," says Belgrave. Aside from watching the games, save some time for skiing and exploring Woljeongsa, a Buddhist temple complex dating back to the 7th century.

Just a short car or train trip from the East Coast, Montreal is the type of destination that lends itself well to a great friend vacation — while offering plenty of options for independent activities, if you so desire. Hiking up Mount Royal is the perfect way to get some fresh air and exercise in with your buddies, and pigging out on scrumptious poutine at La Banquise is mandatory for every traveler.

Pisces
February 19 to March 20

The coming year is a time for Pisces to become more grounded in reality. "The Saturn in Sagittarius has been grinding you to become more structured with your big ideas and imagination," says Belgrave. "Now that Neptune will be in your sign until 2025, it's high time for you to learn how to deal with your whimsical and sometimes spacey nature: When you're the sign that tends to absorb other people's energy, it's a good idea to disconnect for a while.
