One of our fave local watering holes, Bar Pilar, got a much-needed facelift recently to go along with its expansion into the space upstairs. We've always been intrigued by the bar's former upstairs neighbor, Raven Arts, with the curious purple paint job and nondescript facade. Turns out, owner Regina Miele — who's kind of a big deal in the local art scene in her own right — scored a sweet new street-level gallery space right across the street. Now called ARTS@1830, the operation has fully transformed the former thrift store location into a stunning, airy gallery with working studio and class space.

Miele travels around the world to find artists to display in the gallery, many of whom have never shown in Washington before. Her new artsy digs will be a must-stop on any D.C. gallery hop, and we're banking on the fact that the sophisticated sculpture, painting, film, and installation pieces will offer up plenty of fodder for cocktail conversation. Stop by the opening reception on Saturday to scope the space and indulge in some refreshments provided by their old friends at Bar Pilar.
