How To Get Your Favorite Beauty Products — For Half The Price

Some things are just better in miniature form — including (but certainly not limited to) cake, golf, pigs, and beauty products. The latter, obviously, is what we'll be proclaiming our love for today. Why? Because oftentimes opting for a cosmetic mini in lieu of the full-size product can be as practical as it is cute.
Plucking a travel-sized item off of Sephora's shelves not only saves you serious dough, but it also gives you a chance to test it without committing to an enormous jug you may never finish. (And luxe minis make those getaway weekend trips that much better.)

"I never leave the house, let alone the country, without the convenient rollerball version of the only fragrance I ever wear. The scent is beyond description — it's strangely sexy, borderline dirty, and somehow smells different on everyone. There's nothing else like it in the world." — Rachel Krause, Beauty Writer

Kiehl's Musk Essence Roller Ball, $26, available at Kiehl's.

"I love the dry texturizing spray as much as the next aspiring wannabe-French girl, but I actually prefer this one for travel and on-the-go. It refreshes and revives style without stickiness, and gives my lank, not-quite-straight hair untidy but purposeful waves without heat tools." — Krause

Oribe Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray, $22, available at Oribe.

"I don't know if this counts as a beauty product, but I do know that I'm a lifelong insomniac and anxiety sufferer, and this is one of the few aromatherapeutic blends I've tried that actually relaxes me. Now I have anxiety about running out of it, too." — Krause

Uma Pure Calm Wellness Oil, $49, available at Uma.

"I will pack three bottles of mini dry shampoo before I toss a hair dryer in my luggage. It's not like you can decant the aerosol spray into a clear, cheap bottle, so I do have to invest in these. But, all the time saved washing and drying my hair on vacation is worth it." — Cat Quinn, Beauty Director

R+Co Death Valley Travel-Size Dry Shampoo, $17, available at R+Co.

"I recently brought this conditioner on a trip to Japan, and I didn't need to pack anything else. It smoothed my strands without the need for cream or styling tools, and gave way to perfect, air-dried waves." — Quinn

Virtue Smooth Conditioner, $15, available at Virtue.

"This credit-card shape is super cute obviously, but also genius for travel. It's plastic, unbreakable, and totally flat. I always forget to pack fragrance and you can still slide this in after zipping your overstuffed bag shut." — Quinn

Calvin Klein CK2 Pocket Travel Spray, $22, available at Sephora.

"I'm not really a 3-step skin-care routine person (at home, I alternate between a lot of different products and brands). But, I will say that they make for A-plus travel kits. This one by Ole Henriksen has deluxe sample sizes of face wash, toner, and moisturizer — so it lasts the whole vacation, as well as on the moisture-sucking flight home." — Quinn

Ole Henriksen Balance It All Set, $34, available at Ole Henriksen.

"Okay, I know this is supposed to be for your hands... but I've managed to make this tiny tube work on my legs and ankles for a few months. You will never catch me ashy." — Khalea Underwood, Beauty Writer

Kiehl's Ultimate Strength Hand Salve, $15, available at Kiehl's.

"My feelings about perfume mirror the ones I have about edge control products: I can't commit until I'm fully sold. I have a feeling that I'll be adding the full-sized version of this vial very soon, though. The peppery tuberose scent is addictive." — Underwood

Diptyque Do Son Travel Edition, $65, available at Diptyque. (Ed. Note: This product is currently sold out. We will update this post when it is restocked.)

"The last thing you want to do on vacation is waste time that could be spent hiking or snorkeling or cage diving (just kidding — could you imagine?) on your hair. So I make it a rule to come equipped with plenty of mini Klorane dry shampoos to avoid turning into a greasy nightmare." — Kelsey Castañon, Beauty News Editor

Klorane Dry Shampoo Travel Size, $10, available at Klorane.

"If you adhere to the 3-month mascara rule, minis are clutch. I love collecting samples of mascaras — especially when they feature the original mascara's unique brush like this one. I'm a huge fan of Better Than Sex's volumizing formula, so having it in a travel size is essential." — Mi-Anne Chan, Beauty Writer

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara Travel Size, $12, available at Sephora.

"I can’t remember the last time I finished an entire bullet of lipstick. Lip balm? Sure. But a full-sized lipstick? Nah — I’m way too fickle with my shades. That's why I love getting mini tubes like these from Charlotte Tilbury. They allow you to try out different shades without weighing down your makeup bag. And they're soooo cute." — Chan

Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Mini Lipstick Gift Set, $39, available at Charlotte Tilbury.

"Powder is a category of makeup I use sparingly which means I rarely hit pan on my tubs or compacts. Kat Von D's Lock-It Setting Powder mini is the perfect size." — Chan

Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder, $15, available at Sephora.

"This mask is the most foolproof skin treatment you can take on vacation: it rehydrates post-flight skin like a dream and balances irritation and exhaustion. Plus, there's enough for two applications, so I either share or save the rest for another night." — Lebsack

Origins Drink Up 10 Minute Mask, $4, available at Sephora.

"I'm guilty of a major makeup crime: putting on too much bronzer. It's hard enough for me to find a shade that works with my skin tone (and freckles), so this grey undertone is a huge win. But the small box is key; the tinier the box, the less product I can load on my brush and swirl onto my face. This basically ensures the ideal bronzed look every single time — and I love it."— Sam Sasso, Beauty Editorial Assistant

Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Matte Bronzer Mini, $15, available at Ulta Beauty.

"My full-size styling treatments tend to last years (it's gross, I know), which is why I now opt for travel sizes. I use them everywhere — whether I'm traveling or staying right at home." — Sasso

Living Proof Perfect hair Day PhD Travel Kit, $29, available at Living Proof.

"I made this birthday sample last forever, and I have no shame in that. The wand is still huge — even in the mini version — and it makes my floppy, untamed lashes long and thick." — Sasso

Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagent Mascara Travel Size, $12, available at Sephora.

"I don't travel without this, and if I worked in an office where it wasn't normal to have 50 full-size products on my desk, I'd definitely keep this in my top drawer. It's the best for instant volume and cool, piece-y texture, and it doubles as a dry shampoo. Most minis should be required to multi-task." — Alix Tunell, Senior Beauty Editor

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray Trael Size, $22, available at Birchbox.

"So, technically, the box itself isn't mini, but inside are 30 individual sugar packets of powder cleanser, so I like to save them for trips and just throw two per vacation day into my bag and be set. Plus, no chance of leaking — genius." — Tunell

Honest Beauty Refreshingly Clean Powder Cleanser, $22, available at Honest Beauty.
