BarIII At The Flea: Dani Hits L.A.'s Rose Bowl Flea Market

Round two of the BarIII Flea Market Tour lead us across the coast to L.A. Nestled between scenic mountainsides, the outdoor Rose Bowl Flea Market was a little slice of vintage heaven filled with shoppers showing off their eclectic sartorial tastes. The flea featured tons of vendors selling all sorts of treasures —vintage clothing, antique furnishings, and even '70s-era metal lunch boxes. I got to bond with awesome bloggers Sincerely Jules and L.A. Fashion Snob at the BarIII tent, and took my "lunch break" to do a little (well, a lot) of vintage shopping. I left with some denim cut-offs, a floral romper, a vintage YSL blazer, a denim bomber jacket, and some weathered rocker tees. While in town, I made sure to stop by L.A. hotspot Katsuya for a bite to eat, and ended my night at the Mondrian SkyBar to see my girl DJ Lindsay Luv spin for a stylish crowd. As much as I loved my trip to the West Coast, I'm definitely ready to come home to the city that never sleeps. Next stop, Chicago!

Captured: Your Most Stunning Music Festival Snap!

instagramcontestwinner-1

For our Captured: Your Most Stunning Music Festival Snaps contest with Smashbox, we sent you forth into the Indio sun with one objective: Find the best, most eye-catching example of festival fun and Instagram the hell out of it. Mission accomplished, style soldiers!

During the two weekends of music and madness in Indio, 500 of you submitted your hot, hip images with the #FestivalSmashbox tag collecting a total of 17,961 "likes" and exposing over 100,000 Instagrammers' eyes to all that captured beauty. No small feat there. Respect.

Of course, only one image could lasso the prize of two VIP tickets to any 2012 music festival, round-trip airfare, and a travel bag stuffed Smashbox beauty essentials — the stunning, sparkly crowd shot taken by iPhone photog Ms. Farris Green of Los Angeles. Take a look.

Now, let Farris tell you about her weekend at the fest:

"This year, it was a mix of group dance parties as it sprinkled rain, dancing/huddling in the crowd to break from the wind during Radiohead, and dancing like a crazy woman during Justice's performance on the main stage on the final day (which is where I took my winning photo). Oh...and who can forget that freakish Tupac hologram... Definitely danced to him, too!"

Sounds like fun, Farris. Just remember, next year’s ticket to dance is on us!

A Recipe For Casual Drama From Jewelry Designer Annika Salame

We've been handing out tips on dressing for the evening from some very, very fashionable ladies. Today is no exception as Annika Salame, the gorgeous Swedish designer behind local jewelry brand by boe (check it out why don't you), offers a few tips on how to bring drama to even the most minimal blue skirt. Enjoy.

AnnikaSalame

Annika Salame, Designer, by boe

"My 'go-to' outfit right now often involves a raw silk, floor-length, blue skirt I had made locally. Last summer, I wore it with flat gladiator sandals and a white blouse-y T-shirt. For this look, I added a metallic tank from Zadig and Voltaire, and my current obsession, Alexander Wang booties (I wish I could walk around in them every day). I love the floor-length trend — the way you can dress it up or down.

"When I'm going out, I like to start with one dramatic item and use that to build on. It can be an item of clothing, a pair shoes, boots, or an accessory. If I’m in more of a laid-back mood, maybe it will be a vintage Sri Lankan traditional top. If I'm in the mood to look cool, I'll throw on high-heeled motorcycle boots from Stella McCartney.

"I like to mix textures; silk with knits, silk or knits with leather, silk with jeans. Right now, silk always seems to be in the mix somewhere, but it’s all about a natural balance — it has to feel like 'me.'

"I usually start with my current basic stack — a by boe wrap bracelet and a leather wrap from Smith and Butler. For this outfit, I added a chunky, vintage bronze bracelet to counter the drape-y fluid shapes of the skirt. If my clothes have very simple lines, I like to add multiple stacks of jewelry. For the combo on my other hand, I’ll stack a silver ring from St. Kilda and the City Ring from by boe. As you might guess, I love picking out jewelry to match my clothes."

Name: Lindsay Luv

Ten-Second Bio: A "DJ to the Stars" or a "Turntable Goddess" — depending on who you ask — Boston-born Lindsay Luv holds residencies at the hottest nightclubs and spins every Saturday at the Mondrian L.A. Luv resides in Los Angeles and has DJ-ed parties for everyone from Richard Branson to Rihanna.

Favorite ‘80s memory: "I’m a Madonna fanatic, so I would have to say it’s a cross between the controversy over her 'Like a Prayer' video — I locked myself in front of the TV watching it over and over — or her performance in Desperately Seeking Susan, which became my fashion bible! I actually snagged a vintage Madonna tour booklet the other day that has all these insane pics of her from back in the '80s. LOVE!"

Favorite GUESS memory: "Their jeans, of course! What girl didn’t beg their parents for a pair?"

Favorite returning ‘80s fashion trend: "Polka dots, black lace, ripped jeans, wearing only one earring, patchwork jean jackets — OMG I am such an '80’s girl! I love it ALL."
