Role Model: Karlie Kloss Raises Over $58,000 For AIDS

Adding to her list of accomplishments that would inspire anyone (or make them jealous, or both), Karlie Kloss raised over $58,000 for AIDS charities at Sunday's AIDS Walk New York. But really, what doesn't this model do? At just 19 (yep, you read that right), Kloss can already claim the titles ballerina, model, style icon, Olympian (just kidding), and, now, she can add philanthropist to the list (on top of being a normal teenager, that is). Marching with fashion BFF Jason Wu and wearing Juicy Couture activewear, Kloss led team Step Forward to charitable victory, with some help from Juicy in the form of a hefty donation. Along with 45,000 other participants, Karlie contributed to the $6,014,822 total raised for over 40 AIDS charities — talk about a model citizen! (WWD)

Kate Moss Is Jamaica-Me-Crazy Beautiful In Harper's Bazaar

Kate Moss looking amazing in photos is not exactly news, per se, but always exciting nonetheless. In the latest shots that we're loving, great Kate takes to the shores of Jamaica with Harper's Bazaar to dazzle us in Alexander McQueen, YSL, Calvin Klein, and all the other dreamy designers we'd pack for a tropical vacay, too (well, maybe in our dreams).

Miss Moss takes up serious real estate in the June/July issue of the magazine, as she appears center stage in a 20-page editorial, as well on the cover. Shot on location by Terry Richardson, the photos not only catch the 38-year-old looking ever the picture of perfection, but also capture the muse's playful side as she takes in the awe-inspiring island sights of Jamaica. The issue will be available May 29, but, ahead, we've got a peek at some of our favorite pics and the striking cover. For even more of the chic and sandy shots, click over to Harper's Bazaar.

Shoppers Are More Likely To Buy Stuff When Models Aren't Super-Thin

thinmodels Turns out that, yes, if a fashion brand uses an Abbey Lee, Edita, or even a Daisy in its campaigns and runway shows, anyone who happens not to be shaped like an Abbey Lee, Edita, or Daisy is less likely to pull out their credit cards and buy the wares.

According to the eminently qualified Ben Barry — a modeling agency CEO with a Ph.D. in business from Cambridge — studies confirm that consumers are 60% less likely to purchase from a brand featuring models who “didn’t reflect their size.” Conversely, when certain women saw models who approximately matched their body types, their “purchase intentions” increased by 300% (!!!). So much for the myth that models with “aspirational” body types offer "inspiration" across the mainstream.

As Barry’s brief of his study — available here at Elle Canada — continues, we learn that similarities in age, ethnicity, and other factors between the observer of a fashion campaign and its star also produce positive effects, while the industry standard of thin, white models had a correspondingly negative impact. Yes, designers and editors may talk all day about the aesthetics of models with a certain “look,” but for anyone interested in commerce — which, let’s face it, is the backbone of fashion — Barry’s results are a strong argument for tailoring campaigns to fit audience demographics or at least offering more diversity on runways and in magazines.

Perhaps more interesting, though, was Barry’s research into how women felt, seeing glamorous clothes wrapped around a model who looked somewhat like them. Said one study subject about a model with her body type, “she does more than make me feel beautiful; she inspires me to go out and get this dress and celebrate my beauty.” Love Abbey Lee, Edita, and Daisy as we do, you can't really put a price on that kind of response. Shop Our Girl Lily Kwong's High-End (But Laid-Back!) Looks

We've long been fans of Lily Kwong's West-coast-meets-East-coast sartorial aesthetic; it's naturally eclectic but doesn't lack an ounce of sophistication. So when we saw that she teamed up with online mag Lifestyle Mirror to style an editorial shoot, we were pretty psyched. Lily sat down at one of our favorite downtown restos, Miss Lily's, for a (double-Lily) photo/video shoot that includes her signature loafers, sweet tunes, perfect summer staples, and (of course) a lil' something something from cousin Joseph Altuzarra. The best part? All of her wares are shoppable, like, now. Check out the adorable video below to learn more about why this It girl really has "It," and then call some of her pieces your own. Oh, and Lily, next time we're enjoying the joint's jerk chicken, well be watching for you...and your outfit. (Lifestyle Mirror)

No, It's Not A Coloring Book. It's A Kate Moss Coloring Book

kate-moss We've finally figured it out: An age-appropriate, and definitely rad, way to disguise our coloring-book addiction as something much more mature. A Kate Moss coloring book, of course.

The iconic model — with a colorful history — gets all washed out in the Colour Me Good Kate Moss Coloring Book. Just as it sounds, the stunner takes center stage in this 14-page book in outlined illustrations, ready to be brought to life with a little help from Crayola.

Excuse us for being tardy for the party — we'll admit the Kate Moss-inspired pastime may not be brand new to the scene — but thanks to a little Pinterest action that caught our eye, we've finally tuned in and are officially calling it the perfect Hump Day treat to push us through the rest of the week. Following in the lines of other fashion coloring books, this Books with Style publication comes with all the exciting imagery and none of the luxury price tags.

Don't think of it as child's play (warning: not all the pictures are PG-rated), think of it as a way to spark a little creativity, think outside the box, and draw outside the lines...at least, that's what we'll tell our friends when they catch us scribbling away.

Books with Style Colour Me Good Kate Moss Coloring Book, $15, available at Shopbop.

Guess Which Cover Girl Wants $46K A Month In Child Support?

Most people would be happy with $46K year but for Cover Girl Linda Evangelista's five-year-old son Augustin, it's just the right amount per month. The 46-year-old model is seeking payment for full-time drivers and bodyguards for her son with billionaire ex-husband François-Henri Pinault. While many experts and NYC lawyers agree that this is way too steep (based on how much it actually costs to raise a son), Pinault's already put a $13 million California mansion on trust for his four-year-old daughter with current wife, Salma Hayek, so it may not be out of the question to think he'd fork over $1,500 a day or nearly $807,000 per year to his son. If he does pay up this will not only make Augustin a very lucky boy, but will also break records for child support. We're not making bets either way (especially not for $46k!), but if anyone's going to pay it forward to that extent, we wouldn't be surprised if it was a man nicknamed the "King of Luxury." Yep, that officially makes his son a prince. (NY Daily News)

Does Vogue's Ban Of Underage And Anorexic Models Go Far Enough?

vogue-thin-may-1Did we just witness the first truly eventful step toward industry-wide responsible editorial casting? Condé Nast International has just released a statement effectively and almost immediately banning models either under the age of 16 or suffering from an eating disorder from appearing in 19 international editions of Vogue (including Anna Wintour’s U.S. title).

Undersigned by Chairman Jonathan Newhouse, the six-point statement seems to have a great deal of force behind it. Though phrases like “knowingly” and “appear to” dull its sharpness, the pact could represent a welcome attitude adjustment for the world’s preeminent (and perhaps most criticized) fashion title. Proposing the use of verifiable I.D.s for young models, better working conditions, and various support programs is particularly laudable.

The statement also reads, “We will be ambassadors for the message of a healthy body image,” and, “We will work with models who, in our view, are healthy and help to promote a healthy body image.” Encouraging, yes. But it seems the power to craft a title’s particular concept of a, “healthy body,” and decide which models, “appear to have an eating disorder,” remains with the very editors who may be responsible for perpetuating the problem the pact addresses. Anna Wintour, for example, may still determine U.S. Vogue’s physical ideal.

Only time — and many Vogue issues — will tell if she and the hundreds of Vogue editors around the world will rise to the challenge of this statement. But it’s a good start and, maybe, a good day for fashion. (New York Times)

Read the statement here and tell us, is Vogue doing enough?

Video: Chanel Iman Poisons Her Lover, Tortures Him

Lollipops. Puppies. Teenage girls squealing over One Direction at a slumber party. As one of the official faces of Victoria's Secret PINK, Chanel Iman channels all things sweet 16, whether she's posing perkily in bright, girly PINK hoodies or smiling down the VS fashion show runway to blaring teen pop. Getting even with a cheating lover in a scene straight out of Revenge? Not so much.

Well, well, well. Turns out we were wrong. Last night, we witnessed a 180-degree transformation that dispels Chanel-lite in just three minutes and 46 seconds. The quick-change is thanks to Jenna Elizabeth's short film, Thirst, a collaboration with BULLETT magazine and luxe accessories brand Reece Hudson, where a feminine Iman turns hardcore (read: Lisbeth Salander) femme fatale. We watched the flick slack-jawed with a clutch of other fashion girls and boys — think: Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Genevieve Jones, Timo Weiland, Kelly Framel, and Fivestory's Claire Distenfeld — over fried chicken and cold sake at Niko, making for a Monday that made us wish it was Friday.

Okay, so this isn't the first time we're seeing the supermodel less than squeaky clean; indeed, boundary-pushing filmmaker Elizabeth's first teamup with Iman led to some haunting stripping action. For Elizabeth x Chanel 2.0, though, we're taken somewhere infinitely more dangerous and erotic, an in-motion editorial that leaves the viewer disturbed, empowered, and, yes, slightly turned-on. Shot at the already moody Lafayette House, the "deadly game of confession" maps out just exactly what unfolds if you happen to be stupid enough to sleep with another woman while you're hooking up with Miss Chanel. A superhero for the Carine Roitfeld French Vogue generation, the model poisons her lover via some tainted whiskey, then gets heavy with the duct tape, leading to some macabre games with stilettos, cigarettes, and surgical equipment that's worthy of any Saw murderer. Paired with Reece Hudson's delicate, eye-catching bags and accessories — a gold-flecked minaudiere here, a crucifix-embossed cross-body bag there — and we're not sure if we should be making a shopping list or screaming. Who knew our clutches needed to fit a scalpel?

Kate Upton Love Triangle? What's She Doing With Aziz & Jared Leto?

uptonasis

It's not rare that the gorgeous Kate Upton is surrounded by fawning gentleman, but it's a bit more unexpected that Aziz Ansari would get so intimate with a supermodel. Leave it to Harper's Bazaar and NYC shutterbug Terry Richardson's salacious lens to make some dreams come true. In a throwback to Old Hollywood glamour, Upton posed with the funny man and style anomaly trailblazer Jared Leto at the Beverly Hills Hotel for a gorgeous 10-page spread. And you know Richardson couldn't resist jumping in for a poolside pic, too. Take a peek at the photos and tell us which va-va-voom and say what? pairing you think is least likely. (Harper's Bazaar)
