Lightweight Beauty For A Sticky Chicago Summer

After a winter of arctic temps, we can't exactly complain when we start to feel the warmth. Still, the sticky-ickiness of a humid Chicago summer can be tough to handle. Case in point: that beauty routine you've perfected turns to disaster the second you leave the air conditioning.

To survive the melting season, we enlisted local expert Nicole Pearl. You know her better as The Beauty Girl, a Chicago cosmetics guru and blogger who's on a mission to make your get-gorgeous routine easy and fun (as it should be). We tapped Nicole to shine a spotlight on lightweight beauty essentials that will keep you looking flawless all season long, no matter how intense the heat and humidity may get. Don't just swap your sweaters for lighter layers—your products need a seasonal switch-up, too. So, go ahead and stash the heavy stuff under your sink. Turns out you can shed a little weight without hitting the gym.

This Jam-Packed Event Has Fitness, Food, & Fashion, In That Order

barre-bee-fit-main Are we the only ones that are starting to panic that summer is nearing? We're, like, nowhere near ready. No summer wardrobe, and don't even get us started on that "bikini bod" we promised ourselves we would have by now. Thankfully, it seems the mother-daughter trio behind Lincoln Park's Comfort Me Boutique has our interests in mind, and they're hosting a Sprint Into Spring event to help us out.

Next Sunday, they've put together a full afternoon lineup dedicated to helping us prepare for swimsuit season. First, they're hosting a special edition of the toning and cardio-intense Barre Bee Fit class at the studio's Lincoln Park location. They'll be following up the heart-pumping hour with a presentation from the Three Plaid Farmers on their super fresh (and super healthy) CSA veggie boxes. And, to top it all off, they're bringing the best of their summer merch to the studio, so you can refresh your wardrobe—while relaxing with wine from Poison Cup, natch. Sign up here before spots fill up—we think it sounds like the perfect way to kick start our spring diet, that we swear we're going to stick to.

When: Sunday, April 29, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Barre Bee Fit, 1962 North Clybourn Avenue (between North Racine and North Kenmore avenues); 773-348-2881.

Watch Chicago's Best Salons Go Head To Head On This Wild Runway

hair-wars-main Not all hair salons are created equal, and this Sunday's Hair Wars competition is determined to weed out the best from the rest. Ten top-notch Chicagoland salons will attempt to prove their prowess in a runway show for our entertainment the title of Supreme Salon, and a trip to the Hair Wars finals in Las Vegas. If you're as much of a Bravo junkie as we are, you'll be psyched to hear that Shear Genius finalist Ben Mollin will play host for the evening, alongside judge Eli Mancha, who was named 2011 Stylist of the Year by the North American Hairstylist Awards.

Each competing salon will create its own theme for the catwalk, and if last year's show was any indication, the hairstyles will be anything but tame — think towering beehives, dangerous spikes, and all kinds of props. Fashion photog Alex Goykhman will be on hand to shoot the looks, and lucky members of the audience will get their own chance to pose for the camera. RSVP to 312-265-3990, and start plotting your manic mane now — you'll want to go crazier than your everyday ballet bun for this one.

Where: MID Nightclub, 306 North Halsted (at West Fulton Street); 312-265-3990.
