3 DIY Spa Treatments To Get You Through The Winter Blues

Winter can be brutal, causing even the most ambitious go-getters to retreat to their couches and hibernate until it’s safe to wear clothing that doesn't involve the words down, fleece, or Gore-Tex. But, of course, even in our most vegetative state, we want to look and feel good. So, to help you crawl out of your winter slump without actually crawling anywhere, we’ve tapped into the likes of Josie Maran; Allison Tray, the au-naturel owner of Tres Belle Spa in Brooklyn; and Bonding Over Beauty author, Erika Katz, to put together a luxurious list of DIY spa treatments to get you glowing while you overindulge in syndicated episodes of Law & Order.

Erika's Cranberry Anti-Aging Mask

This delectable mask is packed with antioxidants, vitamin C and collagen boosters.

You’ll need:
1 cup fresh cranberries

1 cup seedless red grapes

2 teaspoons grapefruit juice
1 envelope unflavored gelatin

Mix ingredients until they turn into a paste. Cover and refrigerate for 45 minutes and let thicken. Remove from the fridge and let sit about 10 minutes. Spread the mixture on clean, dry skin, avoiding the eye area. Relax for 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water.

Erika says, "The fruit acid is a gentle exfoliant and the grapefruit juice is a toner. Cranberries are rich in vitamin A, which have antioxidant properties. They are also full of vitamin C, which helps with collagen production."

Allison's Coffee In The Shower Scrub

People have always complimented Allison on her supple skin. She says she owes it all to an easy little energizing trick she came up with that utilizes your left over coffee grounds.

After brewing your morning coffee, dump the hot grounds into a bowl or a bag. Mix in a tablespoon of organic grape seed oil and a teaspoon of your favorite essential oil (we chose lavender oil). Gently scrub and rinse.

Allison recommends this treatment twice a week.

Josie's Argan Peppermint Foot Soak

Josie Maran's Argan Oil has become a beauty routine staple. This warm foot soak utilizes the healing power of the oil and the aromatherapy of peppermint to soothe your tired tootsies while awakening your senses.

Soak your feet in warm water for 15 minutes. Take one cup of sea salt or epsom salt (great for swelling) and mix it with a dropper full of argan oil, 6 drops of organic peppermint oil, and a tablespoon of castile soap in a large bowl (big enough for your feet). Put feet in salt and use your hands to scrub away the dead skin. Rinse with warm water.
