9 Times Stephanie Pratt Was The Best Part Of The Hills

The Hills started out as Lauren Conrad’s journey from the beachy waves of Laguna Beach to the glittering lights of Los Angeles. She moved there to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (better known to everyone who watched the show as FIDM) and pursue a career in fashion. Along the way, she collected and lost friends (Heidi Pratt, née Montag), fell into and out of love (Jason Wahler), and met quite the motley crew.

One member of said crew was Stephanie Pratt. At first, Conrad and Pratt were enemies. This seemed like a foregone conclusion, given that Stephanie is Spencer Pratt’s sister, and Spencer and Conrad are mortal enemies. (He and Heidi KNOW what they DID.) The first time Stephanie appears on The Hills in season 3, she’s getting up in Lauren’s face at a club. It’s an “any enemy of my brother and future sister-in-law is an enemy of mine,” borderline Shakespearean confrontation.

In her typical calm, cool, and collected fashion, Conrad merely replies, “Don’t fight other people’s battles,” shutting down Stephanie’s tirade. Brody Jenner, with whom Conrad is hanging out at the time (making fans question the nature of their relationship — are they friends with benefits? Just friends? Do we even care? Well, Jenner revealed it was all faked for TV in 2014. The important takeaway here is: Can you believe that at one point, Brody was the most famous Jenner in our lives? My, how things have changed.) isn't having any of Stephanie's outburst, either, nor does he heed her request to come back to her and her friend Roxy's place.

Over time, however, Conrad and Stephanie Pratt actually become friends. It helped that they were both students at FIDM and even wound up in a few classes together. Still, everyone on The Hills is as shocked as viewers at this strange turn of events. Much like her brother, though, Stephanie does make for some excellent television. In honor of her 30th birthday, we’re taking a look back at some of the times Stephanie Pratt was the absolute best part of the show.

Her People’s Revolution job interview.

“It was one of the less-exciting interviews I’ve been in in awhile,” People’s Revolution owner Kelly Cutrone tells MTV about Pratt’s disastrous interview.

Pratt’s résumé includes the fact that (she also tells Cutrone this out loud), “My final objective in life is to have a handbag line.” Pratt continues, “So I really want to work here just to see...you have a lot of great designers here, and the PR that you do is really awesome.”

Cutrone points out, “So you basically want to use my clients and their inside knowledge to ultimately leave here and go make your own handbag line.”

Is it a hamster or a guinea pig? That is the question.

Stephanie is lonely, so she gets a hamster to talk to. Well, when she first got the animal, she told Lauren Conrad it was a guinea pig. Conrad then tries to explain the difference between the two to Pratt: “Guinea pigs are big. Hamsters are like this big,” she says, making a circle with her index finger and thumb. Pratt has quite the response to that. Apparently she has the world’s first species-changing mammal on her hands. Someone get Ripley's on the phone.

When she works the phones.

Despite her disastrous job interview with Kelly Cutrone, Pratt scores an internship at People’s Revolution (being on a reality show has some benefits, it seems). Unfortunately, she has some trouble with common telephone courtesy. Namely the fact that you usually don’t hang up on someone shortly after picking up the phone.

She offers her brother marriage advice.

Pratt has some wise words for her brother Spencer regarding his upcoming nuptials to Heidi Montag. She also fully supports his desire to elope to Tibet, and says that she wants to get married in Croatia. Go big or go to a foreign country is basically the Pratt philosophy for your one wedding.

She wore this bandage dress to The Hills finale party.

This tube dress was the height of fashion in 2010. Never forget.

Her headband collection is epic.

It’s like what would happen if Blair Waldorf decided to transition from Upper East Side queen bee to empress of Coachella.

When she steps in between Spencer and Stacie.

Remember when The Hills tried to throw Stacie, “the bartender” (as her chyron description read), in between Heidi and Spencer? Stephanie was not having it for one second. She threw some massive shade at Stacie’s outfit when she ran into Stacie doing shots with Spencer at a club. Stacie holds her own, though.

Being on The Hills made Stephanie a Laguna Beach fan.

After she met Kristin Cavallari at Heidi and Spencer’s wedding, Stephanie readily admits that she went home to binge-watch Laguna Beach. Apparently, Cavallari pulled a total HBIC move at the wedding and waved to the crowds like they were her adoring fans, and Pratt needed to see why she felt that way.

Stephanie and Brody Jenner have bad blood.

That club confrontation in season 3 was the result of years of family friendship turned sour. In her memoir, Made In Reality: From The Hills of LA to London’s Made in Chelsea, Pratt reveals that Jenner and her brother — who had been friends since childhood — worked on the The Princes of Malibu together. That show never took off, but both Pratts and Jenner were soon appearing regularly on The Hills. “We grew up together, he'd been like an older brother to me for years and years, but in Season 4 and Season 5 of [The Hills], he started behaving like some sort of nemesis,” Stephanie writes in her memoir. “I showed up and started getting as much airtime as him. I guess that stung his ego.”
