1. Know Who To Follow
Just about every makeup artist and beauty blogger will post a Halloween-themed look this month — but some really take it to the next level.

@jordanhanz
Take Jordan Hanz, for example. The artist and YouTuber is posting 31 days of Halloween inspiration under the hashtag #hanzoween. Hanz's colorful looks, like Poison Ivy seen here, will inspire you to grab the closest face-paint palette and go to town. You can watch how she creates her looks in more detail on her YouTube channel.

Three weeks ago, this MAC makeup artist posted a teaser on Instagram asking her followers what Halloween costumes they'd like to see her create. While she's only posted a couple of tutorials so far, we're super-excited to see what she has in store for us in the coming weeks.

If you're aiming to re-create your favorite comic-book or movie characters, look no further. Dehsarae Mahrae, a self-taught makeup artist, has created costumes based on the Joker and Harley Quinn, and even does adorable mother-daughter looks. (See what we mean?)

2. Surf Halloween Hashtags
Halloween-centric beauty hashtags like #halloweenmakeup and #halloweenmakeupideas are treasure troves when it comes to stumbling upon the best makeup artists and costume ideas. If we hadn't spent a few minutes (read: hours) perusing the posts, we wouldn't have found von Esche, whose costumes — including this Fortune Teller — appeal to an edgier Halloween lover.

3. Follow Cool Brands
Ask any makeup artist what his or her go-to Halloween makeup brands are and the majority will scream Kryolan and Mehron, thanks to their interesting colors, special effects, and long-wearing quality. And now, they're also known for dishing up some serious Halloween inspiration.

@mehronmakeup
In addition to posting cool new products and application tips, Mehron has a 31 Days of Halloween Instagram challenge. Each day, the team is posting an amazing makeup-only costume; these are submitted by various artists. Our current favorite? An adorable mother-daughter Cruella de Vil look.

Kryolan also posts tons of gorgeous beauty inspiration daily, including, of course, before Halloween. As it's the maker of some of the most popular face paints on the market, expect to see lots of beautiful — and sometimes scary — costume ideas that don't require any (extra) clothes, such as this Beauty and the Beast-themed look.
